Hi all,
I've been working on this build for over 12 years now. Started with a 3 cut WWII kit from Dan at Angola, and tinkered with it for a couple of years. Life got busy and I put it on hold until a couple of years ago. I got tired of no progress so I sent it off to Bob at Black River Militaria to get finished. After 2+ years I got her back. Haven't even had a chance to shoot it yet. Ended up not using the FAL grip stick and BRP first pattern semi bolt and going with the AR15 BRP grip stick and second patter BRP semi bolt. I also have a .308 barrel, feedtray, and top cover.
It needs to be refinished to be 100% complete. I haven't had any luck yet finding someone local to do the hot bluing but I'm going to start the preparation work next weekend. I had painted it when I originally had it mocked up and first need to strip all of the spray paint off. Then I'll try wire wheeling the rest to smooth out some of the metal.
Other than dowsing the parts in paint thinner to remove the lacquer, are there any other methods to get the metal prepped?

Re: Build finishing help
The road was long but looks like it was worth it. Sand blasting with walnut shell will remove paint.
Enjoy

Looks to me like original finish was phosphate not blue. Every city has a company that can phosphate.

Thank you for that. Yeah, it looks like some king of grey/silver phosphate. I think I'm going to go the bluing path as long as the welds look good when blued. I'm going to have to get some cold blu and see what happens to the welds. If they tiger stripe i'll look at a black phosphate.
