Hi guys,
This gun seems very wrong to my amateur eyes, can you chime in? Trying to learn to identify fakes so please excuse my stupidity if this is a clear-cut case.
I know the gun is refinished but othe than that? The "camming piece" is a different color, why would that be? Also the Steyr bnz GZ stamps look really really fake. I know Steyr had some crappy stamps in 43 & 44 at least but these are even worse.
Thanks for any help!
P.s I was offered this gun for sale so I kind of have a horse in this race.
This cannot be a genuine WW2 MG42?

Re: This cannot be a genuine WW2 MG42?
Is this a full auto? If so, your only concern is that the information on the Form 4 matches the gun. It's possible that it was built from parts and is not original to WWII, but is still on a Form 4, but if it qualifies as a C&R gun, you're good.
The cam piece is a different steel from the sheet metal of the gun, and the blue will sometimes go purple because it accepts the blue differently. Lugers parts are frequently this color, and it's always possible the cam was replaced. For a C&R gun, I wouldn't worry about that.
Without better/more pictures, it's difficult to say more.

Thank you for your input. The gun is indeed full-auto, but not in the US. Sorry forgot to mention that I'm in Europe.
I uploaded some more pics (large ones) so please have a look if you are interested

Butt is apparently Yugo but is the receiver-marking genuine?

The following link (it's on this site) is GREAT for finding out details as to what should be there and what should not be. Like that receiver code should have this type of front end. WHat is the yugo only front end. Lots more
