Hi Guys,
On this forum for i while now, and like it, but this is my first post.
I have a MG42, marked Steyer WaA623, PJ/1944, but is also stamped with an unusual E-number on the receiver. No foreign stamps present.
So i was hoping if anybody knows the meaning and/or origine of this E-number.
This question was asked on the firearms section of the WAF,
http://www.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/ ... p?t=799094
and i have asked Folke Myrvang, he didn't know also, even mailed to Steyer in Austria and US, but no reply.
My friend Nordland, who has been verry helpfull to me, have a database of 800 still excisting MG42's but only 6 MG's of them are with an E-number.
There was also a suspicion this could be a wartime repair where the "E" stands vor Ersats-part, but no proof of it.
A lot of questions and suspicions about it, but again, no proof.
I really hope you can help me out with this one guys, you are my last hope to solve this mistery.
Thanks in advance, Nibelung1876
