Changing out the bolt on Wise Lite M53 semi
Changing out the bolt on Wise Lite M53 semi
Can I replace my stock Wise Lite M53 8mm bolt head with a RGT parts MG3 Bolt head ? Is it just a straight swap or is it more involved , will it change the headspace ? I'm already changing over to 308 with one of RTG deluxe kits Thanks
Re: Changing out the bolt on Wise Lite M53 semi
The Wiselite M53 design changed over the product run. I have an early type and the answer would be no unless they changed it later. Maybe someone with a later WL can chime in as well.
My Wiselite uses a shorted firing pin and a partly milled FP hole to adapt a small grommet (FP guide) and a front FP spring (combined with a 2nd rear FP/striker). Unless you modify the MG3 bolt head in the same manner you couldn't use their FP design, at least the type I have.
The BRP design however uses an unmodified bolt head and a one peice long FP. With the BRP type I see no reason why a MG3 bolt head or any other would not work.
That said, in case your are not aware, you can use your existing Yugo 8mm bolt head with the .308 setup. The extractors are the same, but the plunger (extractor keeper) and spring differ. The only benifet I can see of using the MG3 type is better metallurgy and the more common (cheaper) MG3 extractor plunger/spring, but the bolt head costs a lot more.
