APEX is actually now sold out of the NEW in the white US made 8MM barrels.
The good news is the batch I am having manufactured is now at the shop to have the bores chrome plated.
The bad news is there was an unexpected $275 tooling charge.
These barrels will also be parkerized and not in the white.
As I stated before when they get listed this batch of barrels will be a good bit higher in price than the ones we just sold out of BECAUSE of what they are costing me to have manufactured.

I hope to have my MG42/M53 finished and ready for the range by mid-October. In the mean time I'm stocking up on 8 mm ammo and putting together a German uniform and equipment to go with it. One question I have is where can I find 8 mm ammo belts that hold more than 50 rounds?
250 round fortress belts are not common, and there is no specific source for them. If you must have one, you can make them from the 50 round belts by disassembling some belts and connecting the links together. It will take a couple needle nose pliers, strong hands, and patience, with eye protection recommended.
The were made for the early MG34's. Why would you want them for the 42?

You can connect the belts without disassembling them, you just put the ends together and slide a cartridge in that slot which will hold them together. No different than putting on a starter tab.

250 round belts would be a bit more than I need. 100 or so would be good. I want to use the longer belt for photos with my gun, etc. Nothing really earth shaking but it would LOOK nice in photos. After all the work put in on it I want to take some photos that are really interesting and a longer belt than the 50's I have would look really good.

It has been a long haul but I think I see a light somewhere up ahead! Thanks to some great help from Oakrodent the gun is well on the way to being a semi-auto shooter. I still have to make some modifications to the "innards" plus clean it up and apply a coat of black Duracoat. I hope to have it range ready shortly after the first of the year.

That's looking great John. I was wondering how you were making out on this.
I'd hold off on the final finish till after you test it. I found this out the hard way on my last build.
Glad to see it coming along nicely though.

Thanks Tom. I have to disassemble it and clean everything up then but it back together. I'm hoping right after the first of the year I'll be able to take it to the range. Fingers crossed.

To avoid this I recommend a bolt hold open modification here is the link from a member member.
The photos seem to be gone but maybe someone can re-post.
