Newb with an Apex mg53 kit question
Newb with an Apex mg53 kit question
I'm a Newb to this I'm going to pic up a kit that apex has on sale this weekend, anyone gotten kits from them before are the cuts decent enough to easily build off of? Or are they cut pretty short. I'm assuming minus a barel and needing a new rear they are pretty much all there? Opinions greatly appreciated. Thank you - john

Re: Newb with an Apex mg53 kit question
Different batches of kits can be cut differently, so there isn't really an answer to your question other than looking at the pictures the post with the ad.
Re: Newb with an Apex mg53 kit question
I got one early this year and if they are from the same batch they were cut pretty decent. No recuperator or rail holes in mine, but there was still plenty of meat for a semi receiver graft with an intact camming area.
The front was decent enough that all it really needed was ground down, squared up and enough was left for an RTG MG3 front barrel guide to measure up perfect.
The parts look rusty but most of that is cosmolene in the pics.
BTW, if you want an easy short cut you can also graft an MG3 rear on from RTG which allows you to skip the buffer tab riveting alignment headches assuming you are using a set of semi receiver shells. You'll probably need an MG3 buffer and buttstock if you go this route, which is a nice upgrade anyway IMO. Here's a few pics of the kit I got a few months ago and the rear stub section:

Re: Newb with an Apex mg53 kit question
Judging by the number of Yugoslavian M53 kits that have sold during the Memorial Day Sale I would expect to see a number of threads get started with build questions.
The MG42.US board is the main place I refer customers to learn about these guns.
I also sold another bunch of the NEW 8MM barrels, belt drums & Gunners Field Kits.
I don't have as many of these as I do the M53 kits, so don't delay the purchase if you want one!

Thank you for the updates.
This means that if you folks want a barrel or two before the prices go up it's time to buy some.
