The Iconic Devil's Paintbrush, the famed German MG08 Heavy Water-cooled Sled Mounted 8mm Machinegun with original Sharpshooter's optical sight, and complete with water can, ammo can and one original 250 round cloth German Maxim belt.
Gun is a curio and relic registered live machinegun. Complete with original Muzzle break, feed-block with paw, firing lock, etc. Nicely marked and dated 1917 fuzee spring cover. Never cleaned or refinish. Original Sled Mount with a great deal of its original Feldgrau paint, and complete with the original top strap. A nice complete sled-mount with all the boxes, doors, and mounting brackets for tools, spare barrel and firing locks. etc. Comes with the original armored plate that fits under the gun for installing the Elephant ear armor and which is very difficult to locate. not that it matters much but the MG08 and 08/15 do not use a muzzle BRAKE. They use a booster. The function of a BRAKE is to slow things down. On a firearm they work by using the high velocity muzzle gasses to pull the gun forward and BRAKE the rearward travel. The function of the muzzle booster on a maxim is to increase the speed of the recoiling barrel to increase the reliability of the action.
I have no idea what the function of a muzzlebreak is unless it is there to shorten the barrel.
Sounds like Hayes sold the gun and setup for a pretty good price and it sold quick.
