demilled mg42 barrel

Post by akjl4xx »

Hello,
I am new to the '42 and to the sight. I have seen the three hole demilled barrels for cheap.
My question is ,can anything be done to the demilled barrel to make it safely fire?
I got my first parts kit a while ago and will commence biuldng shortly.
Thanks for the info.

No. You have somewhere of 50,000 psi in the barrel. Bad juju to try and plug holes.

It will get you a free trip to the hospital or worse. Find a good bbl and expect to pay for it. I guess the smart thing is to get on the .308 train. Barrels and ammo seems to be readlly available.

The square barrel extension usually can be salvaged-un screw it from the bad barrel, then buy a barrel in either 8mm or 308, from Apex, RTG Guns, Century, or CenterFire Systems. Between these there are the new USA made 8mm, Yugo surplus, or 308, your choice but just do not expect to use the de-mill--tempting as it may seem.

It would be kind of like drinking Bleach b/c it looks like vodka, looks can be very deceiving

thanks for the info , I didn't know how it would work out. I have seen decent barrels at shows for under 100.00
I do like the idea of unscrewing the barrel lug. I have the tools to do that.
Do people have much luck with the mg kits, it will be my first '42.
thanks again

This site is essentially dedicated to wise trail-blazers who have had great "luck" legally rebuilding semi-only versions of the Mg42 and Yugo M53; grab a frosty beverage and begin reading through the build archives and see how dreams become reality

The "talk" is that the only good use for one of the demilled barrels is to convert it into a blank (only) firing barrel.
