Hi guy's, first post here. I create technical illustrations of WW2 German aircraft. As most of the members here will already know many German aircraft carried the Rheinmetall - Borsig MG15 for defensive armament. I basically need some help with the overall exterior dimensions of the MG15. Below is the artwork I have created already:
Do the dimensions look accurate? I kinda eyeballed the dimensions on this version from photos available on the net. I'm a bit of a freak when it comes to accuracy. Would any one know where I could find some plans/blueprints or measurements for just the external details of the MG15 as in the future I would like to 3D model (CAD) a much more accurate drawing for my illustrations. Below is one of my aircraft illustrations to show how they will be used:
Many thanks in advance for your time and any help you can offer me.
Thanks for the info jbaum. What would be considered as the barrel and where did it start and finish? Would the flash suppressor on the business end be included in that barrel length figure of 600mm?
Thanks again. I think I have enough pics to use the overall length of 1078mm as a starting point. Knowing that figure should make it easier to scale and guestimate the dimensions of the individual parts that make up the MG. There are some pretty nice useable photos on the net but sadly they are distorted slightly by the camera lens to get things millimeter perfect.
Illustrations of the MG15 look good but the shroud OD is too small and out of proportion to the actual dimensions of shroud and receiver. If you want actual measurements post me at: bmg17a1@gmail.com
Hi Guys, would anyone happen to know the dimensions for the Ball part of the Ikaria Ball & Socket Mount for the MG15. Used in conjunction with the rotating Ikaria turret on WW2 German aircraft.
