MGZ34 Sight Base
MGZ34 Sight Base
Gents,
I just recieved my 1941 dated lafette 34 to go along with a TNW MG34 and MGZ34 sight. Got everything set up with the help of JBaum's manuals and went to mount the scope only to realize the dove tailed mounting block is missing from the bottom of my sight. Now unless there are some kicking around that could be bought, my friend is a machinist and could manufacture one for me with the right specs.
Does anyone out there have the specs for the mounting block that I could have? Also what size/thread of screws mount the base to the scope?
Thanks!

Check eBay. I thought I saw one of what you were describing here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/MG34-42-Lafette ... 8449362054
Its overseas unfortunately.
I also stumbled upon a guy in Ohio that was machining those, if that is the part you are looking for. Don't have his web address handy, and a search turned up nothing.

Thanks for the reply. But that is not the part. The part is missing from the sight, not the lafette. My lafette is complete, I am just missing the double dovetail mounting block from underneath the MGZ34 sight.

I should mention that I live in Canada and getting parts I need (like the TNW trigger pull lightening kit) is problematic. I know that pictures are worth a thousand words so I apologize for not posting any but my computer-Fu is pretty weak.
None of the parts from that link are the ones I need unfortunately. My missing part is a piece from the bottom of the scope.

Re: MGZ34 Sight Base
Ok, reviewed again. Look at the sight listed on this website
http://www.ohioordnanceworks.com/CollectorsCorner.cat
It's on page two at the bottom, click on it, then look at the 2nd picture.... Is it the bottom double dovetail piece shown?? If so let me know and I'll spec mine out for your friend with the mill.

That is exactly the part I am talking about!
If you could get me the measurements needed to have my buddy make a repro on a mill, that would be fantastic! Also, if you could measure the screws that attach it to the MGZ sight, that would greatly help to find some screws to fasten it too.

Re: MGZ34 Sight Base
That part stays with the scope, and is not very often found as a separate piece. When it is, it sells for a LOT of money, considering it's a pretty simple part to fabricate. Dimensions, a milling machine, a piece of aluminum, and a few minutes (if you're proficient) are all it takes to make one.
Selling such a piece to others in the US would be easy. The customs form should state that it's an adapter plate. It's not a gun part, as it's an adapter for the scope, which is not a firearm or part of a firearm.

Does that mean that after I spec it for him I should walk over to the mill and make a few as they might sell for how much??? That's if anyone needs one.
What do you think, any market out there for a few of them???
recce21
Give me a few days and I'll try to get the specs to you.

Re: MGZ34 Sight Base
I'd say you shouldn't have any trouble getting rid of maybe 5 for $40 each in the first month or two. I've seen more than just a few scopes that are missing this piece. Most people don't know it's missing until they try to use the scope. Poof! Too late!
A website listing of this part would let people find it when they did a search. Not a big money maker, but selling one of something every few months produces some toy money. It's always nice when a hobby has a zero expense balance.

Thanks for the update and Good Luck on selling that new manual of yours.
German Fero Z51 Night Vision Scope Manual...which is listed in the for sale section of this website.
I had the lafette scopes out last night so I'll try to get the spec done tonight or tomorrow. Just used Jbaum's gauges to double check the ramp angle on the mg42SA that I'm finishing up.

Re: MGZ34 Sight Base
No joy in mudville yet. I'll try to do it tonight. If not pm me a note to jog the memory cells. Need to be at home and not doing 5 other things. Last night was loading some 8 mm into a belt or two around midnight. Getting some lumber ready before that.
