Center fire systems parts kit
Center fire systems parts kit
Hello all. This is my first post and with it I am glad to report that I just received my first build kit! A Yugo m53. The kit shows a good bit of finish wear. Barrel bore is in verry good condition! Only thing beside the receiver it is missing is the ratchet plate.I currently am researching receiver options on wich way to start this build. Any recomemndation? I'll try to keep everyone posted as to my progress as I run the gauntlet of this build.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Today I removed the cosmoline to get a better look at everything. As I hoped all parts are in good useable condition. The bolt assembly and barrel however look to be in very good condition. I started to bead blast some of the smaller parts and sanded with scotch bright pads some of the stamped steel items. I'm trying to smooth out some of the surface scratches as I plan on refinishing the whole gun and would like it to look as new as possible when finished.

Welcome as it's your first post.
CF can be very good about that or not.
Both of you good luck in your builds.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
The ratchet plate was attached to the rear receiver and likely returned to nature after the new de-mill process, many times you could salvage them on the 42 receiver rears.
Try Brp guns or RTG.
Centerfire's customer service is excellent but they do not offer ratchet plates.

I am also new to this site and am currently working on the same cf m53 kit. I am going to buy the rtg rear end kit, I believe it is from brp. I am only getting it there because of the drum i want for it as well.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Well I made some decent progress so far. Got the bolt done, you can find pics of that under build section, topic ejector function, all the parts bead blasted and the stock refinished. I then removed the old bushing and pressed in the new one. It is now ready for welding.
The stock turned out pretty good considering how bad it looked when I got it. I must say I got lucky because every time I tried to refinish wood in the past it usually turned out terrible. On that note, I thought I would give a tip about the grooves in the back. Mine had a great amount of wear and I was thinking of different ways to restore it. At first I used a coping saw and then I remember my wood burner. I was amazed at how well it worked! It all most looks new again. A considerable improvement. I was able to fix the worn and smashed grooves with little effort.
Any way here are some pics thus far.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Thanks for posting a few pics to let us see how your doing. Nice refinish job on the stock by the way. And your lucky to get one of the long cut receivers, you have the curved area that has been cut off a lot of the current parts kits. Now if you could just find a cut up German rear to add to it. Good Luck on that. Just double checked, due to the length of your rear receiver area you should be able to use a brp receiver half. That's good news if you need a receiver. Check it out.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
I was very happy when I got my kit and all the forward half of the receiver was intact.
I do believe I am all caught up, with the proper legal mods completed, and the auto trigger group discarded, to be able to purchase the rear receiver now. I have however, encountered a snag with the trunion. The removable piece is not a matched to the other and the pin hole is so mismatched that there is no way the pin will fit.
It is about a fifth of a hole off.I emailed Center Fire Systems and hopefully we can work something out. Worst case senario I"ll mke a new piece.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
I should of said rework the trunion.
Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Here is a pic of the butt end of the stock. I know it's far from perfect but considering it was missing about a fourth of the grooves it's a huge improvment! Hat tip to the wood burner.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Again Great job on the butt stock!! Can I send you a few to do??? LOL
Trunnion (not) quick call it a caming device as thats what most folks on this website call it.... However if you need another one try
http://www.robertrtg.com/m53trunion.html
Also I don't believe that CF has any that match. There are some that state that for semi auto if everything check out measurement wise they compare and match then it will work out. Myself I'm looking for matching ones.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
For those who care:
Even though a lot of people incorrectly call the cam piece on an MG42 a trunnion, it is by definition, not a trunnion.
The ramps (cams) inside the cam piece (that's the German term, they should know) cause the bolt rollers to disengage the barrel extension when the locked barrel/bolt recoil. No pivoting is involved.
A trunnion is a pair of pins which allow whatever the pins are mounted on to pivot, or a pin on which something pivots.

Re: Center fire systems parts kit
Yeah I was wondering why some parts places call it a trunion. The definition you stated is what I have known a trunion to be.
