Rare German MG Steam Hose Connector, Early Style.
Well my latest buy was a rare early style MG08 Steam hose Connector. I have always wondered why the round part above the hose tube. Well I found out. Its a tightening device. Starting at the loose position (unscrewed), you mount the hose on the gun. Then you swing the angle around to where it fits and flows best. Then you turn the round center part to tighten the hose tube to the connector part. First picture shows it loose so the hose tube only loosely connected to the connector piece. You can swing the tube 360 degrees. Second pictures shows it after the round part was screwed up tight. Damn Germans over engineer everything...

Hello matt,
i saw this steam hose connector at Ebay, but are you certain that's a german one?
I know the same in use in german army, during WWI, but they are always in brass, and with little stamp.....i never see one in steel!!! But maybe it's a good one, i don't know all
, do you have little crown, or stamp on it?

Regards
David

Looks like I need a brass one now!
What does the rubber insert piece look like? I am missing that.

When IMA imported the Turkish MG08s and accessories seven or eight yeras ago, there were about twenty-five of the steel hose connectors along with a mix of brass and steel spigots for the waterjackets. There were no brass hose connnectors like the steel ones. The hose connectors were $25 apiece. I bought seven or eight of them and sold a few, but still have a few for my guns.
Over the years I have seen quite a few of the steel connectors, but no brass ones, so from my perspective the brass ones are the scarce ones, not the steel! As with many other parts, collectors have bought them up for their guns, and they don't show up for sale very much any more. Not particurly scarce in my opinion.

Its interesting to see what is rare in the US is not really that rare in Europe. I am betting the brass ones are not as rare over there because they did not rust away and a lot got dug up. The US has been pretty lucking in a few imports like the one from Turkey. Thanks for the info Bob... if you have more to sell in the future, please let me know.
I don't think any original German steam hose connector is common today. Not super rare but if you go looking for one, you can spend a good bit of time looking and not finding much except repros.

I think some people who overuse the word rare on ebay should have electrodes attached to the testicles. I am still looking though for these hose attachments in case any of my 'cousins' in the USA have any. However I am still trying to determine the 'introduction' of the different hose connectors on the MG08/15. ie which was is the first pattern and when introduced, and of cse if there are any other patterns hiding in collections. Needless to say I am after 2!!! If anybody has any images comments on these connectors pse say.

Mark, I hate to tell you this but there is at least a third version! I have one with the raised tube with a brass hose connector!
