It's good friends like Dave that is willing to teach and show his knowledge and collection that makes researching possible. I have talked to him a lot about this and even had dug out all of his reference materiel for this.
I know that even if the experts don't have the answer that sometimes the answer comes from people that would wouldn't expect. So that's why it never hurts to ask because you never know where the information may come from.
The last time I was at Dave's place we talked about the feedblock and the different style but I didn't take a photo of it.
I do think I have a large amount of photographic evidence that will prove witch belt was used. I'm liking what I'm seeing so far on the weight calculations from Wyel's listing. As it doesn't specify it directly we have a means of proving it out to let us know how close our calculations come to the listed weights of the fully loaded ammo belts.
I agree... it never hurts to ask. I had the same problem looking for the correct paint colors for the MG08 sleds...
Yeah I have talked to Dave a few times and gave him all the numbers off my guns for his research. I call him whenever I come across more LMG items.
Sometimes you do find a needle in a hay stack! I found the little shark fin and an extra brass wheel arm for the LMG cocking device... now that was just dumb luck!
I do have some original German 8mm from WWI maxim belts. You can even see where they were in the belt and got them from a guy who said he had removed them from a WWI German belt. I don't know a lot about ammo but if you tell me what to look for, I will see what I can find. Hell I will even mail you a round or two if you like.
For the ammo belt experts - is there a difference between an Imperial period 100 rd 08/15 belt, and an inter-war 100 rd ammo belt? Am I just being overly worried that those with additional leather or webbing ''extensions'' are probably inter-war additions/modifications?
