Ammo type Question
Hello everyone i have some ammo im not sure what it is. The bullet looks to be about 8mm but the cartridge is thicker longer. And im not sure what it goes to. The stripper clip is definitely different but it is stamped with the eagle and swastika and the ammo is also, the ammo is stamped like this, from top going clockwise(couldnt get a picture of it to turn out got one of the whole assembly tho). Top= VIII (roman numerals), right= 38, bottom= eagle and swastika, and left= 19. I assume thats just 1938 but didnt know if that would help identify it. here is a pick of them

Re: Ammo type Question
It's 8 x 56R for the Steyr M95/34 rifle.
Re: Ammo type Question
MP44 nailed it. That ammo is for the M95 Mannlicher used by Austria, Romania, Hungary, Bulgaria and a number of other countries in the region. The clip is actually not a stripper clip as the ammo and clip were both pushed into the magazine rather than stripping the ammo out of the clip into the mag. After the last shot is fired the clip falls free from the bottom of the magwell. It is known as an EnBloc clip and was used in the Garand rifle as well though in the garand the clip was ejected out the top when empty. I've fired a few of those rounds from my M95 and its a nice rifle. They are still available from various sources and reasonably priced. AIM Surplus and century come to mind. There are probably others with both ammo and rifles.
