Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
I am designing a drop in gas kit for semi auto MG-42s / M-53s for reenacting. I was wondering if there was any interest in these? I should have two different styles done by the end of Feb. There will be NO need to modify your MG to use it.
Spell check is down and I'm too lazy to get the dictionary
Re: Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
Will this be using one of "Steve's" circuit-boards and his plans (?).....he is listed as a POC for these out on the Washington state reenactors web-page (with his e-mail address).
I might be interested....and will depend on pricing "and" size/availability of the propane and oxygen tanks. (IE: Need something that is small enough to carry all day in the field by one-man/"Gunner".........but big enough to last a little time "and" be able to change tanks in the field.).
Battery-size/weight (?).
Will the kit be "water-proof" (?)....or will directions for doing this be included as I have seen a couple of circuit-boards shorted out in the field (?). (IE: wet-weather/rain/etc.).
Also, clear directions with kit and ability to adjust settings/firing-speeds (and mixture) will be key. If memory serves me right.....propane requires it to be either warmed slightly or firing-speed turned down during colder temps....(?).
.....but I may still be interested......and don't want the above to sound like I am putting your information-request "down"....these are needed for reenactors that can't own Full-Auto/Class-III.......and would even be a plus to those going to reenactments in states not allowing Class-III.
Suggestion....make up three different "kits" :
1: MG42.
2: MG34 ((requires a different firing-chamber/barrel-length than the MG42).
3: "All-Others-Basic-kit"..... that would allow others to set up their guns such as "Browning-Machine-Guns", Maxims, etc.......and the reason for either two different circuit-boards, or the ability to adjust to a wide range of firing speeds.

Re: Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
This kit will be for the MG-42 / M-53 only. It is going to be a modified trigger pack and a barrel/chamber assy with valves and coil.
You will have to pull out your barrel, bolt, & trigger pack. Install new trigger pack, slide in the package tray, hook up two internal fittings, and then install your buffer. The customer will have to get the board ( I highly recommend Steve's board ), hoses, regulators, bottles, and battery. The power connection and hose connections will be on the trigger pack. The package tray will also have Flash Arrestors installed between the chamber and the valves.
I will not sell complete kits or set up guns do to way to big of a liability issue. Americans as a whole are way to lawsuit happy, sorry
I have no idea of a price yet. I will post some pics of mine when I have it finished. As some of you know, I have very high standers when it comes to building so it won't be some flimsy piece of junk.

Re: Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
oakrodent,
Thanks for the better explanation of what will be with the "patial-drop-in-kit" to convert our guns into "gas-guns".
This brings up a couple of other questions which I would like to address at this time:
1: With the MG42/MG3/M53 using a different trigger-housing then the semi-only SA42/SA53.....will you be making both types (?).
2: With #1 above in mind..........isn't there at least two different SA-42 trigger-housing-lengths being used now (?)......and if so, will these also be available (?).......or would we order a "partial-kit" for a particular manufactured weapon-system (?)....such as for a full-auto MG42 vs. an SA42 by "BRP" vs. an SA53 built by WiseLite, etc...(?).
3: Will your firing-chamber have a barrel-extension/pipe built onto it as a "drop-in-unit" or will plans be supplied for these (?).
4: I'm not sure how the gas-gun combustion chamber operates......but will the spark-plug/firing-plug be easily removeable for cleaning out in the field (?).
5: From what I am gathering from your discription......the kit will be complete with everything that would go inside the MG42 only (correct me if I am wrong).....and would include:
A: Trigger-Group w/internals/valves/etc. to fit the user's current weapon.
B: Firing-chamber with spark-plug and connvections for hoses, and some type of barel-extention/pipe for the noise to go out the front.
C: All required Hoses/fittings/curcuit-board/electrical-connections and battery type to operate the system.
D: Clear instructions to install and adjust the system to operate.
6: One of the systems that I saw on the Washington-state reenactors-board used an empty 50-rd. Assault-Drum to house the curcuit-board.......wil this be used also (?).
Again, the above questions are only asked to get a better idea of what will be provided with the kit.....what it might look like......and if this will be user-friendly for installation/field-use..........so I can let you know if I want one or not.
These are still needed out in the reenactor world......and with a good-kit, I'm sure that you will sell many to reeactors and WWII Vehicle owners.
I look forward to more information and "photos" of what the kit will look like.

Count me in, when ready for delivery.
Any required modifications in order to prep the receiver section that will house the kit?

Re: Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
Still working on it. Will take some pics when I make some progress. The combustion chamber is going to take some doing. 90% of gas guns sound like crap and need constant tinkering. A correctly designed combustion chamber should take care of that problem

Re: Interest in a drop in Gas Kit?
I would be interested as well, if it is something where I can take out my semi parts, drop it in and put my semi parts back in when I want to live fire.
