Bolt modification Questions

Post by METALSMITTY45 »

I'm in the process of modifying my bolt for semi use,I made my extention and have it ready to weld.
I'm getting ready to mill off the original sear catch pad but have seen varying specs on how much to remove,it looks to me just milling it flush with the rear extention housing flat would be fine?

Anouther thing is in the different conversions I've seen on the net I see no mention of the ejector spring and how that is being addresed.I like Pirates idea on the protective sleeve and wedge combo with the firing pin inside.

Anyone have any insight on this that would be great.

What ejector spring? The ejector button hits the buffer spring, the ejector button pushes the ejector bar (inside the bolt) forward against the ejector. No spring is involved, except for the buffer spring.

Ok I guess I didn't fully understand the operation of the bolt.I thought the spring that is on the shaft in the carrier was acting as the resistance for the ejector.

After doing a little study I see that the spring is actually used for an anti bounce feature.

Yup, and the anti-bounce isn't used for semi anyway.

Go into the stickies section. There are some exploded views with all the names of the parts. That will help when you're asking questions. :)

remove just enough material on the bottom of the bolt --so it wont hang on the hammer---during recoil---but enough so it would not hit or bind on the blocking bar/pin
