If done properly, these are safe-follow the instructions carefully, and if you are not real good at welding, get a friend that is to help! The smaller the cuts,of course, the better.Look for pieces with narrow cuts,or overlapping pieces.Pirate has an excellant tutorial on this rebuild, and also one one welding.I would recomend both. The other thing to do is really tearn how these things work,so you know what it is supposed to do when done.It will save trouble later. The welds can be filled and dressed up as nice as you want to take the time for. There are some really nice finished projects out there. And lastly-go through the old posts and read all you can-there is a lot of info there,it just needs to be read.We get a lot of questions here, and I know the asker hasn't really looked through the site. Some real good details in here.So get your receiver pieces, read up,and we will be seeing the pics of your project here! :D ---bil

Bil,

I appreciate your comments and confidence in my abilities!

At least one of us is! :)

Pirates site is the one I saw the reweld and adding bridges, etc.

I guess it all works out...you guys are doing it...the only real metal manufacturing I have seen is motorcycle fabrication...and those parts weren't the super critical parts!

I am thinking of getting a receive afer seeing how you guys are gushing over 'em ;)

Maybe 'someday' I'll get the torch out and create a 'true' MG42...I had seen 'demilled' Tommy guns and thought that would be something cool to put together...

Too bad none of you hardcore builders are nearby...I'd love to stop by your workshops and see how you do all of this

I did mine in a motorcycle shop! Remember that these are stamped steel-if you take your time and are careful, they are no big mystery. They are no differant than welding panels on a car,or replacing a door post-the product is differant, that's all.A good body shop welder could help,it doesn't have to be a gun guy.The bike shop guy maybe.Point is,there are guys all around you doing similar stuff, just find one to help.I had never even thought of building a gun until I got my 42.Go for it !! :D ---bil

Just got my two, ordered last Thursday. Both were the $100 and paid hand-picked (don't think that was worth it).

Interestingly, one is marked PJ but without the SWJ. The other is just a S/N.

It would be very interesting to collect photos of receivers markings, particularly for the late war stuff.

Hi guys,

I'm just another new guy to the sight, but have the same sick love for .... since you were all talking about recievers on this post, I thought I would mention a couple things. after doing some research on MG's and calling BRP several times, they told me that they will have more semi auto kits available early this week (week of 17th) and they will be run somewhat of a sale. Around the $1800's range...so I ordered one. Also, for what it's worth to others building, he told me that they originaly submitted a reciever to the BATFE, with an all new stamped rear, and original barrel shrouds. It was denied, and they kept it as a class III machine gun. They restamped the barrel shrouds to the same dimensions, and it was approved.....for what it is worth....anyway, great sight! love seeing all of your MG's!

Welcome aboard, Metalmuncher365 :D

I cannot give enough praise to Brian over at BRP, whether it is a $1200 order, or a $12.00 order, he is just as attentive and helpful; a real solid character.

And thanks for the info on your conversation with Brian.

How about a little information about you? Do you currently own a '42 or '53?

Yeah, they were going real quick, ah well, worst comes to worst, even the $200+ ones are an EXCELLENT deal. We all saw that $1400 one on (gunbroker?) like a week before these were released for sale on IMA, so regardless of what you pay, you know you are getting a great deal.

I vote you use the demilled receiver. That way we can complain in frustration together just how hard it is  .

I personally went with the demill, because i don't believe myself an experienced enough machinist to cut out all the correctly sized slots and what not on the wiselight rear stampings. UNLESS you are talking about a completed wiselight rear that you have access to, then in that case, go with the completed rear 8) .

Hey guys, I just ordered my kit, and should be getting something very soon. cant wait to start posting pics of progress! Anyhow, unfortunately, Brian did tell me that almost, if not all, of the remaining kits are spoken for. and the price he gave me was a little different, for a mutiple buy price. but regardless, it looks some nice work with those recievers they have, and should be well worth the time in the machine shop finishing it up! and Thanks for the welcomes guy, im still having a blast looking at everyones builds and progress.
