ARE YOU KIDDING ? Romanian 8mm is THE BEST surplus ammo still out there. It is not overcharges like Turk ammo, has good primers, and the steel cases will not harm your chamber no matter what the other gun "experts" say. The MG-42 WAS MADE to use steel cases. The Germans has steel cases. Romanian ammo is really good stuff. Forget what 12WaffenSS says... if you don't want your Romy 8mm, sell it ALL to ME.

I put about 120 rnds threw my G33/40 one day. I was sore for a week.

Darn it, i knew i was forgetting something. I was so excited to start building this gun, it never even dawned on me if canada even sells surplus 8mm ... I'm guessing they should have it around, i really should look into it though, ammo being an important component of any gun .

I just got back from shooting Yugo this weekend and had a few feed jams with the jacket being rammed into the shell casing. Just wondering if the Romy stuff will cure my problems.

It all depends of when the Yugo ammo was made . The 1952 batch I got will NOT work in my k43, since the necks of the cases are too high and they jam HARD in the chamber every time. The extractor usually rips a section of the rim almost completely off the case. Now, rifles varying as they do, it may be a combination of a particularly tight chamber mixed with an overly long out of spec ammo case. In any event, the batch I have will run in my MG-42 but not the k43 rifle. I use Romanian 8mm exclusively in the k43 now. The primers on Yugo ammo tend to be a bit harder, so a soft tap of the firing pin for ANY reason may not cause detonation. My rifles have good springs, so that's not a problem, and the MG-42 pin force is more than sufficient to ignite a hard primer. Your guns may vary. Unfortunately for me, only Yugo is available in my area, and I prefer Romanian, which looks more like my original steel cased German rounds and is very consistent.

Ahhh........ok, then I'll chaulk this up as an Ammo problem. I did notice a few rounds with 'loose' slugs (the FMJ part wiggles a bit) which probably points to your mentioning of the necks being out-of-spec. As long as it doesn't hurt my weapon, I can deal with it.
That bolt slams pretty hard though and I had to use a small common screwdriver to pry out the unfired jammed rounds.
