When the barrel is pushed into the front side of the camming section it should just engage (and ever so slightly preload) the reuperator. You can see by the ramps on both the bbl exstension and the recuperator piston that help them in the initial engagement. If you have no preload on the recouperator your bbl/bolt assy will initially fly back at way to rapid a rate. It would be as if they had a head start on recoil. Bottom line hard recoils of bbl/bolt assy and possibly damaged ears on the camming piece.

Thanks Matt. I thought it should be engaged.
I may be getting close to finishing this up but don't want to allow myself
that deceptive luxury.

To be honest carlque I dont know. I bought mine from a board member (thanks nutrusted) but Im guessing its out of the first batch of the 2nd generation. Much of it appears hand made. Im assuming they tried their damnedest to make a marketable item to keep their business going. Dies are very expensive to get made and require periodic replacement. Im going to have to cut out a section in front and replace it because the camming piece simply wont fit around it on one side. The other three dimensions are accurate so I didnt want to squeeze it or anything. Its workable and fun but they can only get better.
Thanks for the reply, it is my guess, that they are from the original dies, (you are lucky)! All the pics that I have seen posted of the second generation stampings leave a lot to be desired. It was probably just wishful thinking on my part, that what I was seeing was from the second gen.! BTW, has anyone talked to or e-mailed C.S. recently about the quality of their second gen. mg42 receivers? I contacted them/him via e-mail a few months ago and he acted as if there was NO problem with his receivers! I asked if he was going to improve on them and he just kind of shined me on!! So it DOES NOT look to good for an upgraded version!! As long as people are willing to buy the junk he has for $350.00 a pop, why should he upgrade!! LOL Rod (carlque0

Well If the guys at cold steel are true to there word I should see my section by late this week early next week at the latest! WOO HOOO :cheer:
Also About $%& Time!!!!!!! It will take a full day of groping and another of initial measurement and eyeballing just to get back into the swing of this build!
Good news is my buddy has and is going to let me use his digital camera in my "Metalwerks" AKA The basement of Steel or the Dungeon. I have stopped short of calling it the Penamunda Proving Grounds! In all honesty I was thinking of D.A.M. Which translates to Davis Armament and Machine. Give us your problem and we will find your D.A.M solution. This is the place where I say things like Copyright and Trademark Yadda Yadda Yadda. The problem is I don't want people associating me with Davis Industries  ie. cheap auto pistols inc. Well thats all for now! :ot:
