Anyone have one? What exactly does it look like, and are they using the original receivers or solid, dummy ones?
MG-42 Non-Gun?
Re: MG-42 Non-Gun?
The one I have is really a 53,the markings on the topcover were 'scrubbed' off. They use the original receiver, with the buttstock lightly welded on.There is a steel plate welded inside covering the top slot, and the barrell is a piece of PVC painted black. The camming piece is welded on,and the cocking handle is tack welded in place.Mine was a torch cut with the rails and recuperator left in and cut.No AA site is the only real giveaway without closer inspection. That said,it is a very nice piece, and well worth it for a display model. The welds are all nice, but I did grind the one on the cam piece to make it look better, don't know why they did that. They don't always have them, and therte is a wait.I think I waited about 3 months, depends on avail. of parts, and the time to do it between shows.Call them and ask how long it will take.I think it could also be made into a semi will some major work, but not worth it at current prices. ---bil

Re: MG-42 Non-Gun?
Thanks for the pics, Bil, much appreciated. Any chance you can get pics of the welds on the receiver?
Re: MG-42 Non-Gun?
I will get them for you in the morning, except for the cam section weld, the rest are all finished nicely. ---bil

Hope these help. Some of that is just poor paint or dust. ---bil

Re: MG-42 Non-Gun?
Thanks again Bil, can I ask for one last pic? You said that a steel plate is welded, covering the top slot, what does that look like? I've been thinking about turning one into airsoft model, closest I can get to a function MG42 in my very anti-gun west coast state.
Re: MG-42 Non-Gun?
It is a 1/2 " X1"x10" piece of scrap that is inside, and is welded along the slot, where it could be removed to get at the inside.Inside is just the torch-cut rails.I cannot get a picture,I may have accidentally removed it to get pieces out of the recuperator. ---bil
