now for the other one. I have no idea what all these levers, knobs and dials do! I can get a manual but it's in German.

Because I couldn't afford one of the MG34 kits that BRP is currently offering, I decided to take pity on my self and burn the credit card with one of these tripods. If mine looks as good as yours, I'll be quite pleased. I'm wishing now that I'd followed your lead ordered the AA tripod at the same time.
Regarding the manual, do these function the same as the war-time models? I wonder if John's translated manual would work for these?

mine hasen't shown up yet, and after seeing yours I am getting more excited!!
Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
These are not the same as the war-time ones, they don't have the fancy optics and fire control setup. They do work nice for shooting, though. The AA tripods work the same as the old ones-mount gun and shoot!

Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
I did notice that the right hand leg was bent (look at head on photo above)
but it is fixed now. I just folded it all up left the offending limb sticking out stood on the opposite side of the frame and just gently pulled the leg straight. There was a lot more grunting and turning red than the last sentence implies. All you can see now is some cracking on the paint at the bend. It was probably delivery abuse. Still cannot fault it for the price I payed
If anyone else is going to get both like I did (or is thinking they should have got both) then a word on the shipping they don't combine postage for the 2 items. They will go in separate boxes due to size and weight I will take a pic of the boxes tomorrow and post it.
And have I mentioned these things are HEAVY..
I cannot remember if I said this but the rubber covers, on the switches for the lights, have gone "funny" it has semi liquid consistency. I think it is due to the age of the rubber I have seen a similar thing on feed tyres in printers.
I am going to clean them up now.

I'm still waiting on mine. I can't believe I need to be watching for the mail-lady

I'm sure you will be doing a photo-essay on how to work these things -- won't you????

Wow guys, when I first posted this I thought it would be a quick thing. Whats this I see, something like 3 or 4 people have purchased from this guy so far....hmmm, I think I need to call this guy and start asking for some royalties.
As far as AA tripods, Sportsmans Guide has them for the exceptionally low, SG exclusive price of only ....379 dollars.....I almost called them and was gonna ask them if it was a misprint. Sometimes I dont know how those guys stay in business.

Thanks for posting about these, Scott.
Haven't received mine, yet. When it arrives I'll post photos.
Does anybody know where to get information in English on operating these things?

Jbaum has manuals, I plan on ordering one too. as far as waiting apparently, dhl in europe delivers to usps here. mine took about 2 weeks to arrive. if you want one of these it is an excellent deal, it is at least $150.00 less than getting one from a US distributor.
Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
Has anybody else received their tripods? Mine is still AWOL.

Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
Some information on the light box with the wires -
The two wires from the battery box both have "features" on the ends. One is a little flashlight, good for map reading, operating something in the dark. The other device clips on to the sight/periscope, giving you illuminated crosshairs for shooting in dim light (no light outside and you are obviously shooting into the dark). Knobs in the box are switches to turn the lights on and/or adjust brightness (if memory serves correctly). I got mine a little while back from RTG, and it was used but in good condition. A little fooling with wires, connections and contacts and all was working.
The sight light also works on the HK G3 rifles with their Hensoldt scopes. Hensoldt made scopes for the MG42 and they made scopes for the G3- there is some german logic there that the light works on both pieces...

Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
Well I just had to jump up and order one of these for myself. Would like to have a WW2 model but that will need more savings time and this will do nicely for my .308 version. I have two kits..one WW2 8mm and another WW2 with post war stampings and setup for .308. I think I got the last one he had listed.

Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
I was incorrect..he still has more tripods to sell. $288.00 to my door is a great deal by any measure!
Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
Got mine a couple of weeks ago and I'm very pleased.
Except for storage wear, there are no signs at all that the tripod itself has ever seen use. The optics were still sealed in their original box with inspector's cards, manual, and other odds and ends inside.
I haven't bothered powering up the optics, but I'm a happy camper with this purchase. Only wish I'd bought the AA tripod he had listed at the same time. He's offering very good bargains on these.

Re: Anybody need a tripod for under 300 bucks?
OK ..I just received mine as well. I had a little stress when only the bottom part showed up and I had to wait for almost two weeks for the upper part and the battery bos to show up. I am very pleased ..condition looks virtually new, optics are crystal clear etc. I definately recomend this seller. These are really great tripods!
