Post by mauser »

hello have just completed a protype of mg42 rear receiver that goes right up to the rear sight and is ready for massproduce ,3 hrs a receiver NO BS :D . is laser cut and made from 14 gage {.074 }cold rolled steel.

it has all holes cut ,rails installed {riveted}, Ratchet Plate installed ,ejection port not cut,cam squares and grip slot is not cut ,also no buffer tabs or grip mount.my question ,is this able to enter states at this state or do i have to convert it more to 80% .there coming from canada then hopfully to anyone..

From what I understand if you do not install the rails, do not cut out the ejection and grip slots, then you might be good. The ATF tends to change the rules as they go along. It sounds very good. I can't wait to see it. Good Luck

The wise thing to do is to submit a sample to ATF and have them make a determination that it is not a receiver or gun part. If they determine that it is, submit another sample with less work done. 80% is a non-specific, un-technical term, which is not something that ATF has ever used as a deciding factor. It's more like the public's guess at what ATF wants.

If you have ATF approval, that's all that matters. For a little insight about the "80%" myth, download ATF's Handbook (free) from my website Links page.

how about tabing the openings and leaving the pieces attached for us to remove/finish like on the AK type receivers?? And maybe lazer cut/dash the bend lines and leave in pieces in kit form??

Is this a flat or is it folded? :thanks:

I would look at selling them as flats. This should be easier to get through the BATF because that is the way a lot of AK "80%" receivers are sold. Just my 2 cents.

I agree. Or, better yet, a version of the "kit" with the cutouts done, panels folded, but no rails or welding done. The rails and welding can be easily performed by the average hobbiest, the rest can't.

(You could offer several versions of the kit with more or less work pre-done.)

By the way, nice work. Looking forward to seeing these made available.

thanks for the feedback guys really great.they take no time complete after the flat is ready so ill be pumping them out 10 or so a day with the setup i got.when someone wants one it will be as simple as taking it of the shelf and into a box..no 8-12 weeks like that other guy..ill be posting pics of it done next week as making final ajustments and want it to be perfect..

The flats look kind of like those old cardboard toys-fold along line 'A' insert tab 'B' into slot 'C'....I'll bet these come out better! ---bil

14 gauge steel would make these easy to weld up.
I'm afraid it's love at first sight

Why are you guys asking for him not to fold them? Do you guys have a brake press w/ back guage sitting in your garage? - I don't. I would rather get it folded and cut the pockets & holes myself. I'd try to get it approved folded with no holes.

I'm guessing since the guy has a CNC laser cutter (AMADA Maybe?) then he probably has a nice brake as well.

If you fold them I'll take a couple as well.

sorry for getting rid of the pics as ill be replacing them with the finished product hopefully by this tuesday by the latest..i got a excellent brake and a 1.5 million laser cuting machine at my disposal so i will be fixing this silly drout of kits without a rear receiver...

also im not doing any sales of flats but only bent and welded rear receivers as just like you i want a ready to go rear receiver ready for my kit without messing around with bending and ect...thanks
