MG42 Sling?
MG42 Sling?
I have a question. I bought a sling for a MG42 a while back and when I received it It wasnt what I expected. However maybe it is correct.
I used to carry an MG34 in reenacting and it had a sling that was split into two parts and there were round peices of rope sewn inside to make like a handle that was easy on your hands when each strap was wrapped around and carried like a briefcase.
However the strap that I have is just a plain strap with a spring hook on oneside and a quick release square peice on the other (fits into the gripstick).
My question is what does a WW2 MG42 sling look like?
I want mine to be authentic if possible. I like the split type for carrying purposes but I want to be correct.
Can anyone post some picts or info on slings and perhaps make a sticky?
Thanks
RR

That is certainly a postwar sling, probably yugoslavian. Here is what a MG-42 sling from WWII looks like. You should usually have a WaffenAmt (weapons department) inspection stamp with an eagle and inspector number underneath, stamped on the side of the latch that clips onto the pistol grip.

No problem at all. I really didnt specify that I was looking for a WW2 in that post. I plan on making a M53 too and I can eventually use it for that. BUt I am looking for a usable WW2 German sling too...........any ideas

I found a source for repro Afrika Korps canvas and leather split slings and ordered two. You can have one when we meet if they are actually delivered.

Here's one from a source I've used a number of times:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0118580810
I bought one of these, but haven't taken delivery yet. I'll post pics when it comes in, but for $21 . . . .
And here's one from another company that I've bought a bunch of stuff from -- excellent folks:

I dont' think you'll find a nice repro for less than these -- though the $50 one that John pointed out looks awfully nice, too.

Re: MG42 Sling?
I got one of these in the mail yesterday, the sling is ok not 100% happy with the color a little to bright brown (which seems normal for repo slings like the MP40 and K98k's I have seen) and the metal on the gripstick connector(doesn't appear to be as strong as an original, but what in the repo world is) For $21 bucks its worth every penny and I am very happy with it. It fits the gun very well and seems to be very sturdy. Here's one from a source I've used a number of times:
