Yeah man.

I am one of those people who can just "do things" without thought or planning.

It just comes to me, in this instance......it's like I am a ghost, and I have already lived a life of the guys who designed the MG-42.....and whats worse, it happens in everything I do.

.....yet, I am also the kind of person who has to write "Pay Bills" every month on my hand, or "Get gas" etc, or I will forget. Very easily!

I am just playing around with my interals for the first time. My rails are off from the trunion by 1/32" or so, and after a swipe on the grinder the recuporator will drop right in, and the hard part will be over.

Can't wait for the weekend.

ya im the same wya, i can figure things out once i have measurements in my head. Drives my father up a wall.

Thats a very nice wooden gun stock you made, very crisp and clean.

A side question if i may ask. have you heard of a machine called 3-n-1 machine from Smithy?

It's just a typical milling machine / lathe combo right?

Mine is just a R8 milling machine I purchaces at Harbor Freight. A lathe is my next big purchase. FREE GAS PISTONS!!!!

And your earlier question about the shoud. Why would I want to build one when they are widely availible? I believe it wouild be easier than the rear, although it looks difficult with lots of details......for the most part it's hallow.....

....the only moving parts on it is the barrel gate, barrel and the gas/trap/flash supressor. Nor freaking rails, trunions, buttstocks/buffers, recuporators.......AHHHHH!!!

That is very nice work. I am going to do the same thing once my Weaponeer kits arrive and I am finished with my scratch built mg47. The receiver for it is not as complicated as a mg42 receiver but my 300 WSM FAL was a bit of a chore. My scratch built MAC-10 was easy though.

If I missed what the thickness of the receiver side walls is, could you please tell us again.

It's a rainy day....so I can't go out and play.

So instead I pulled out my ruler and calipers. I hope this helps you guys without original receivers.

DON'T SHOOT ME IF THESE ARE OFF A BIT. I TOOK THEM DIRECTLY FROM MY 1943 CRA REWELD. (At least the best I could without calling it a profession.)

The side view top measurements are from FLAT SURFACE TO FLAT SURFACE.

Note*** ( The grip stick hole measurement is from a extended hole for semiautomatic, of course. )

Did alot of work today. Installed barrel gate and forward retainers on receiver for trunion.

I have done a good bit of cleaning this thing up, but there is still alot to go.
