Just something that I was wondering as I look at my 34 receiver and figure my next move in my rebuild. Warpage is a concern when rewelding--but I wonder if there is existing warpage due to being tourch cut----------------just a fleeting thought

The heat input from cutting is less than that from welding. After the cutting torch heats a spot to the melting point, a jet of pure oxygen is then admitted, and the accelerated oxidation of metal turns it to slag quickly, although the hot area is very locallized to the cut area only. When welding, you have to heat the metal in a general area to get proper melting and fusion, and the heat spreads into the metal and away from the weld area much farther, with a good chance of warping parts that have a combination of thick and thin areas. So, cutting really doesn't warp parts nearly as much as welding. Welds also shrink as they cool, tugging and pulling the parts out of shape as the weld and heat-affected zone cools.
