MG47 Project Up Date

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

Last night I got the safety installed. It is the same type as a MG42 style. A button on the upper part of the gripstick that when pushed right is on safe and when pushed left is fire. I will attach some images tomarrow.

(P.S., Bil, how's my typing doing? Better I hope. I am not yelling any more.) :)

Speak up,I cant hear you! Your typing is very nice-have you learned how to use more than 2 fingers? I am still trying to master that.Who would have thought a high-school tpying class would be handy, way back then!? Progress on your gun looks good! ---bil

My typing

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

Actually, I can type fairly fast with all my fingers, but as a Mechanical Engineer I have been lettering mechanical drawings in upper case block for about 35 years. This is the way most mechanical drawings are lettered. Architectural drawings are done in mostly lower case script. Old habits are just hard to break. :|

Now, if I could just spell!

Dont you think rebarreling to 7.62x51 would make sense at this point too. simplify the belt issue action should handle it too

Belt Feed MG47

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

The main point of this exercise is to make a cheap to shoot belt feed gun. The cheapest ammo and parts are 7.62x39, AK and MG1/53/42 parts. I have future plans for a MG53 if my kits ever get here and a 7.62x51 bullpup out of a Winchester Model 100 receiver and bolt I have. The MG1 top cover and feed mechanism seem to feed 7.62x39 into a upside down AK forward section with no problem except I need to use a stronger recoil spring than the standard AK one.

What I really would like to figure out is how to make is a beltfeed F.A.L. in 7.62x51. Maybe in the future I will tackle that one.

Funny, the 8 years I was a draftsman for my father I always had to print in capitals on their drawings. His company is still in business now for almost 60 years! He is an OLD school architect. I found that I could write in SSCG almost as fast if not faster than I would write in cursive.

The thing I have found is with the advent of CAD any hack can look like a draftsman. It is an art that is quickly being lost. Nice to see somebody who shares the old trades.

Anyway, I have been away for a while and was wondering what this was. Where is the beginning of this build? It looks pretty interesting.

I grabbed another beer that night and went hunting and found them. Nice project. Has been about 2 weeks or more since I have been awake enough at night to go through the site. I checked in the other day and therre were over 800 posts since I had been here. Never bothered to look at them all. Would have missed yours if I didn't wonder what the heck the MG47 was.

MG47 Name

Post by SHARPSSHOOTER5090 »

The gun is a mixture of AK-47, MG3, F.A.L. and M60 parts thrown in with a bunch of homemade parts. In trying to figure out what the heck to call it my doughter said why not MG47 since the major parts are Ak-47. I need to take some more pictures of the progress and post them, but as you know, there is never enough time to do everything that need done in a dayto get eveything accomplished. I spent the last 2 evenings building a new extractor for my 300 WSM F.A.L. that broke last weekend while shooting at the local range.
