Newbie with receiver questions.

Post by ScottD »

As I wait for my eternally backordered M53 from Sarco, Ive started researching this weapon. As a new guy, I see NOTHING in the way of receivers out there. Everyone is talking about company so-and-so is retooling or out of stock or about to produce, but nothing is available. IS an affordable 80% receiver something we are going to see in the next 6 months, or is this parts kit gonna turn into wasted closet space?

Also, how much should a 3 cut German receiver go for? Im watching one right now and dont wanna get ripped off. Thanks.

cost for 3 cut

Post by waterdawg »

Look on the for sale on this web site, you need 3 posts, I just bought a 3 cut receiver without parts for $800. A saw cut would probably be more. Also check out Gunbrokers auctions. Good Luck .

a3 cut for $800 isn't bad,it all depends on the cuts-esp through the cam area and barrel bearing.I have seen some nice ones up to $1100.The nicer cuts are more on the upper end,as there is less work to re-welding. ---bil

The one Im watching is just a 3 cut rear section. Is this workable as far as rewelding? Will it work with the current M53 kits out there?

Where can I get a repair section for the bbl bearing? ( the cut part up front of the bbl jacket)

Sorry for all the questions, newbi-itus........

These will work with the 53 kits IF the piece you buy goes far enough forward. Most of the 53 kits are cut at the camming section,so your rear would need to include this. This can be a hard to get part, althgough in the last few weeks they seem to be popping up everywhere! Well, almost everywhere :D The bearing support-the threaded end in front-can be purchased from Wise-lite,a company that is represented here on the site.Tony, the owner,is coming up with some new parts for the 42/53 and is a good guy.The repair bushing has just gone up in price to $150.It may sound like a lot or a big jump in price from $125,but I dont see how he could have sold them for that.I wish I had bought more-they are a work of art.The other option is to get another entire receiver for a little more, the older German ones dont seem to have been cut through the front threads-that may save time and money. Then just use your 53 kit for the "innards" on the German re-welded receiver. There is a reason the last batch of 53s were $200-they are PARTS,not an entire gun.I think that they are best used as parts unless you have the skills and patience to do the work on one of these new receivers that may come out someday.Sorry for the long winded answer,I can get like that.Hope it has been some help,Welcome aboard! ---bil

Damn, so much to this 42 project. My 1919 was sooooo much easier. Ive got a lot more research till I try to put this together. Now, if Sarco never delivers, its all for nothing!

Is there a sticky or site that takes a MG42 semi build from parts kit to finished product? (lIke the 1919a4 tutorial....?)

Speed Costs! How fast you wanna go?
You here that in the racing business a lot and it fits the MG42 receiver problem also.
You can wait who knows how long for one of these after markets.
Or buy a chop job and fix it or have it fixed.
To me a properly rewelded W-ampted ww2 receiver will always be worth more than a copy. But you are going to pay more!

Also the 53 parts,if you get them, will never be wasted closet space.Right now they are at about as low as I have seen them in a long time.Like Steve says, how fast can you afford to go.The parts kit will always be worth at least what it is worth now, within 6 months we may be lucky to get them. Then watch the price.I felt the same when I first got the bug-I wanted something NOW! Even when the new receivers come out, there will be a whole new learning curve-there is no way that they will be exact and just bolt together.Ride the curve that is here now-there are still reasonable 42s out there, and in here too.A lot of work and testing has already been done.Good luck! ---bil

Look at the price of other parts kits that dried up and you quickly realize there is no way you can loose.
