Wise Lite Arms receiver repair parts

Post by Pirate »

I was contacted by Tony from Wise Lite and asked if I would be interested in looking over some repair parts they are making for the mg 42 semi home builders. He sent me a booster repair sleeve, ratchet plate and cam section halves. The first part I pulled out of the box was the booster repair sleeve. My first impression was this is a part for a rocket engine!! I have seen a lot of gun parts, but none machined like this, the part is perfect in every way.

For those of you who don't know about Wise Lite Arms they are a manufacturing firm with a background in hi tech tele communications and aero space manufacturing and have brought thier expertise in manufacturing and engineering to the firearms industry. What this means for us gun builders is high quality precision parts for us to work with. As someone who has spent about 30 years machining and fabricating this is a blessing.

The first thing I noticed was the mirror finish, lack of machine marks and burrs, it is a precision engineered and machined part. The barrel bushing fits perfectly and is indexed like the origonal, the booster fit in and the flash hider screwed on easily. This part is made specifically for the receivers with cut threads and the sheet metal intact. you cut off the threads and square off the nose then index and weld in this sleeve. They also recommend cutting 4 slots in the nose to add additional weld.

These parts are currently available for $125.00

The next par is the ratchet plate, it is a full .100" thick with perfectly formed dimples and the plate is flat with no distortions from forming. The dimentions match up perfectly with the one on my reweld. it is a bit more expensive than ones currently available, but worth the extra $ because it is made to the proper dimentions and specifications.

Thes are currently available for $40.00

Last but not least is the receiver cam section repair sheet metal. This is where these guys earent the title Michalangelo of metal!!
They are formed from laser cut blanks .100" thick and the contours match the origonal perfectly. I measured my receiver and a scrap section and these parts match the oroginal dimentions, the width is a few thousandths wider but can easily be fitted. Once the halves have been welded the openings can be machined. They do not have the dimples for the rails but you can use a washer under the rails for proper spacing.
These are an impressive peice of metal forming, the bends show no signs of stretching or cracking, they are perfectly formed. once welded the finish machining is straight forward and should be easy for an experienced builder.

These parts are available for $125.00

Thanks for posting this info, Pirate. Lot's of us were waiting for your opinion on these parts. It's a relief to know that we can get on with our builds now -- at least those of us who are lacking only the camming section.

Excellent :D !!!!

Looks like time to start spending money again. Prices are good, too, except for the "cocking slide guide" (thanks for the term, jbaum!), which seems about $10 too high. But what's $10 with dependable quality and manufactured precision like this?

Can we order NOW?????

$10.00 extra for a part that is properly made and will work better is not a lot of money considering the scope of the build. building one of these is a major project if you don't have a 3 cut receiver to work with, if money is an object to do it right you are working on the wrong build.

Thanks for posting the product images and the initial evalutions.
I would like to add a few more details and a correction.

The latest batch of "Barrel Bushing repair sleeve's" were completed and are now available at the new price of $149

The "Ratchet plate/cocking slide guide" will be offered as pictured ($40) or with the "Charging handle slot" cut ($50)

The "Camming Section" repair sheet metal is still in "beta test". Wise Lite Arms won't be shipping any of these to customers until we have received and evaluated the inspection and build reports. That will tell us if any changes to the product are indicated. We are hoping to have this work complete within three weeks.

We are working final details with a on-line retailer. They will be able to better serve your orders for our products.
I will post details soon.

Regards,
WLA

Fantastic. Looks like another welding session is in order in the near future. Now to start cleaning up the front shroud section and remove the remains of he bushing.
ETA: How would one go about forming the "cocking handle guide"? On an original receiver that is already pressed into the metal. Granted, the ratchet plate forms the outside of it but you will still need to form the step in the receiver. Will you have to cut out that section of the receiver and then weld an "L" shaped channel there to make the step. I'm anxious to see what Pirate and pdstout will come up with to make this step. I would also like to see how WLA did this. Too bad they can't press it into their new receiver. That would save a lot of work.

i think your confused by the pictures pirate posted . they are of a center repair section from in front of the cam to about where the cocking handle sits when all the way forward.
I know it took me a while to see were it fit.

Well, that makes sense. Something just didn't look quite right. It did seem kinda short.
Right now I'm sitting here with the beast on my lap. The indented track takes up almost half of the length of the receiver. I guess the raised sections have me confused. That's not hard to do today. I just got done shoveling snow away from the garage so my wife can get out. Damn plow pushed all the snow over to our side of the alley. Nice big pile of damn hard snow. They did the same thing out in front of the house too. So it looks like I'll be shoveling a path through the plowed up snow tomorrow so I can get the Jeep out onto the road so I can get to work. There are times I really, really hate winter.

Thanks for all the good comments and your patience. Wise Lite Arms would rather take the proper interval to get our products ready for the customer, than to rush them out the door only to get a defective item returned. WLA will advise when we are ready to sell the receiver "Camming Section" repair stamping.

Now, I mentioned that WLA has welcomed a new member to our team. They are a "on-line" retailer who will be selling the products you have seen pictured here. The name of the company is "Armory Parts Exchange":

http://www.apexgunparts.com/

You can expect to see our items on their web site shortly after the first delivery gets thru their door. APEX is a great company and carries a large variety of parts for all sorts of firearms. They also carry many varied firearms parts sets.

WLA

The owner from Armory Parts Exchange is currently at the "CrossRoads of the West" gun show in Phoenix.
He has not yet had time to get the Wise Lite Arms products posted on his web site. In fact, about 95% of what he has available isn't posted on the web site!
Call or e-mail your wants to APEX as our goods were shipped to them.
