I remember back when my rcvr had been welded up in the rear, and
the front was left for me to do. Shipping was hard on it, and it had banged
itself on the front section where the last cut was at.... right in front of the
sight tabs. Front sight tabs, and bipod slots made the metal flimsy enough
to bend without the front bearing section attached. I didn't pick up on this
until I jigged it, and installed the sight/flash keeper arm(?) onto the tabs. That's
when I saw it. I bent it, but became so unsure of how far off it would be, that I
installed a bore laser in the barrel....inserted..jigged the pieces...and tacked.

Anyhow, I'm sorry to read about your experience, as it's quite obvious you're
upset. From your comments, It appears nothing can be settled at this point, so perhaps you could try
to fix this problem alone. If that's all you can do, then this is what I'd do.....

As a suggestion, the pipe you bought may be a good
tool to remedy this. It's doglegged to the right, so hack the right side(top slot to bottom slot) where it was
welded....leave the left weld alone, and put the pipe in the bearing hole, and tweak it until
your able to insert the barrel. Run the line for sighting....maybe a laser like I did.
Here's where you would have to hammer the right sight tab inward to match the left
side witch is now pointing true straight. Check width of tabs by installing sight/keeper
pieces. move barrel fore and aft for any binding. Tack the right tab to the nose section.
Check....finish the weld run.

with a receiver as organically shaped as the 42 its really hard to tell in person if its off alignment and even harder to almost impossible in pictures where you only get the one perspective.

its interesting to see in pic 100_1292.JPG the front sight ears, which are a part of the should section and weren't welded on by stout but are made to appear way off center either by the perspective of the picture ,or was the kit damaged before/during /or after stouts work ?

I only had a 16" piece of 3/4" pipe to duplicate your pictures with to see what your going through, I'd look at the weld splatter on your bi pod lock area as this was a tight fit vertically or maybe its bent up too far , it might be contributing to the pipe not fitting in your receiver . the pipe (OD .95") itself fit in the nose section very sloppy (ID 1.05") with a large gap to let it flop left or right for me . if yours doesn't then you may have weld splatter causing the problem it looks like you can see some in pic 100_1292.JPG

I'd like to see a picture of the receiver ,
1) free standing on the nose bearing with a plumb bob hanging down , centered on the rear buffer rivets ( not that there always perfectly centered in receiver)
2) taken from the height of the rear sight base centered on the rear receiver base . maybe even with a tile background to add a second vertical line on the side.
i know its a very specific request but thats what I'd do if i had it in my hands and short of that I'd need you to do it.

I know you've had issues with stout in the past , I'd thought you'd talked with salt and those had been settled ?
his review rating is pretty good , not too many total but all positive so far.

I think from what i can find this might be an isolated incident and not an example of what the board can expect from stout on a regular basis.

Its amazing anything works right around here with a bunch of
over-age juvenile delinquents running the place.

OKI, Mr. Stout has agreed to recut and repair his work. I will post more pictures when it is back. I hope this puts this issue to a rest.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but from the pictures, it appears that the front receiver section is bent. How else could the front sight tabs not line up with the rear sight tabs. It almost looks like a banana.
No pun intended, Robert, but I hope you get everything straightened out.
Many things are just so obviously wrong that I wonder how it made it out of the shop. Glad to hear that Mr. Stout wil make things right for you.

Robert

You know something? Maybe by me starting this stupid post it will have been the catalyst to get your 42 straightened out, and remove a black mark on an otherwise good record for Mr Stout. That way I would have accidently helped two of the members of this outstanding board. Who says I am useless! I hope it all works out for both of you.

there is more then 1 side to thisand like salt said we are beating a dead horse, last time we were on this issue, we requested pics of the reciever and they never matierialized

just remember for those that have not welded theirs, this is not a straight symetrical gun it is stamped piece of sheetmetal and not all of them were demilled nicely some are also damaged before demill, during and after demil, these cannot be anticipated, those of you that cannot weld your own just remember this,we welded mine and cut it at least 3 times to get it right ;)

Pete has welded mine and another of my friends' semi receivers. Pete has told me as we put them together if something needs fixed, just let him know and he'll take care of it. I'm sorry for your experience, but I believe mine will be fine when it's all said and done.

Luckily she's not internet savvy... She'll never know! :-P

But like I said, I'm happy with the work. Hope it works out for you as well Robert... I just wish I had another '42 receiver for him to weld..... Or that he did MG34s........ :!:
