Sarco M53 kits
Sarco M53 kits
I know this was posted elsewhere, but it seems as though no one has ordered a kit from Sarco. Other than one negative response, I haven't heard anything else. In any case, I decided to order one from Sarco. I need 8mm conversion parts for my SA-42. I figured that I couldn't go too wrong for the price. $196+shipping. I can't buy a barrel, feed tray, top cover, and nozzle for that price. The rest of the parts I'll keep for spares until the price triples at the end of the year once everything dries up again. Maybe.
So I guess I'll be the test dummy for a Sarco kit.

I just got my 2 kits from SARCO. One was covered in very thick grease, but the other one wasnt too bad. Both had German nazi marked top covers as well some other parts that I dont know the name of yet. One of them seemed to be missing a bunch of small parts. Can anyone tell me whats missing, small part wise from this image, so that I can tell SARCO and possibly get some replacements sent. One kit was also missing the bipod.

Hard to tell from the picture what you might be missing. Is that all the parts? Or are there some other ones laying around. Seems you're missing one of the recup nuts and maybe one of the bolts. No buffer latch spring, rear sight , one of the rails, the other half of the camming piece, camming piece rivet, recoil spring. Where's the gripstick? Like I said, I can't really tell what all is missing.
But then all I want is the barrel, top cover, feed tray, and the rest of the parts to convert to 8mm. Maybe this is the bottom of the barrel.

Go down to the stickies section-NOT the stickies in a seperate forum. It is down near the bottom of the index page. What you are looking for is the second sticky from the top,by the excellant jbaum, who has all this stuff in his books for sale.I had a hard time finding it,too.Good luck with your parts kit! ---bil
Ok, guys. My Sarco kit arrived. To say I am pleased is an understatement. Since I need to charge the battery for the camera, I'll just give you a run down on the various parts.
As far as I can determine, all the parts are there. The barrel shroud has the rear sight still in place as is the barrel door and latch. There exists the remains of the barrel bushing. It wouldn't be hard to repair and replace. The torch made a nice straight cut and didn't harm the rest of the shroud.
The gripstick is a WaffenAmt marked German one in excellent shape. It has red bakelite German grip panels. All the internals are there also as is the retaining bolt for the gripstick.
The nozzle or recoil booster is a Yugo and appears unused. Same with the barrel bearing and the flash hider. Both of them appear unused also.
Top cover has no crest and the cartridge guide is marked bpr. The feed tray is also unused and had a cot or cof stamped on it. Top cover pivot pin is also included. I think that the guys who think it is broken are refering to the flat on it. It's not broken.
Yugo recup, fully assembled with front bolt installed. The rear bolt is loose along with the two nuts. Twisted wire springs.
Both pieces of the cam piece are there and have matching numbers. The cams are in good shape and not chipped.
The buffer assembly may be Yugo and is practically unused. The buttstock is black painted wood with the wire wrapping, and the usual cracks and chipping.
The rails are uncut and still have the remains of the rivets in them.
The bolt and bolt carrier appears to be a light one and it is also in excellent condition. I haven't taken it apart to see what ejector is in it.
Also included is the gripstick bracket and the stud for the tripod mount. Front sight assembly and latch and springs and pins are there. As is the buffer latch and pin. Not sure if the spring is there but my MG-42 kit was missing one. Not a problem.
But the barrel, what about the barrel. Well, it's not brand new. In fact the bore is cruddy. I ran a Hoppe's soaked patch through and then a bore brush. Lots of black crap came out. The rifling looks strong. Right now I am soaking the bore with Hoppe's. I think it will clean up nicely. A couple of JB impregnated patches will remove a lot of crud. I wish those Yugo soldiers would learn to clean the weapons after they're finshed shooting them. The cams on the barrel extension are in good shape also. BTW, it's a Yugo barrel. The barrel doesn't appear pitted, but I won't know until I get the bore cleaned up. A call to Sarco depends on the bore condition. Time and Hoppe's will tell.
Oh, and the charging handle is Yugo and slightly used.
So, my impression of the kit. Overall, with the exception of the barrel, barrel shroud, buttstock, and some small parts, everthing appears to be new or very slighty used. If I could spare another $200, I would buy another one. I would advise getting one while the getting is good. This is too good a deal to pass up. Who knows, I might end up making another SA-42 out of this kit.

Unless you get a crappy barrel, it won't be a mistake. My barrel isn't new, but it's a shooter so I'm satisfied. After all my 42 ain't a target rifle. I was just glad to get an 8mm barrel in decent shape and the rest of the parts to convert from 7.62 to 8mm for only $200. And spare parts in the bargain.
I've been cleaning the crud out of the barrel and it is shaping up nicely. Very good rifling, but the bore was very dirty. Once I get my toy out to the range and heat the barrel up, I'm going to pull the barrel and run some Hoppe's soaked patches through the warm barrel. That will pull more crud out of the pores of the metal. The crown looks good and the bore doesn't swallow a bullet. The headspace checked out good. The bolt won't close on a no-go gauge but it will close on a factory round.
But I won't know for sure until I shoot it. Got lots of Romy and Yugo 8mm to burn up. Sometimes a barrel that looks cruddy at first will turn out to be a pretty good shooter. As long as the crown is not dinged up it should shoot ok. I've had barrels that looked like they were used for a homeless shelter that shoot good after they were cleaned up. JB Bore compound is your friend. That and lots of elbow grease.

M53 special price
For those interested in multiple M53 kits, Weaponeer has a buy going on of 3 for $525. That's noticably less than Sarco, if you have a use for all of those parts.
