"new guy" here, and I'm jumping on the wagon

Hi.
I've been joined for a while now, but have mainly been reading, and I'm not sure if I've ever posted before, but since I've just jumped into the mg-42 full force, I thought I'd say hi, and get aquainted.

Here is what i've done so far:
Just ordered a yugo-53 kit from Centerfire, belts and cans from Cope's, and well, I've already got crates of 8mm ammo stacked in my shop, so ammo is there.
Now, the first thing I am about to do is READ, and READ EVERYTHING on this site about building mine up.
I know now, that i'll need reciever pieces, or either a blank reciever.
Also, I'm sure I'll need a cam piece.
Right now, I'm just at the READING part.
When I get the kit, I'll clean, and inspect the torch cuts. Will do some restoration on the stock, etc.
But while doing that, I'm just going to READ.hehe
So, here is the kicker.
I hope I can make this thread a record of my build.
I plan to post step by step photo's as I go.
Does anyone agree?
I know it has been done before, but I thought, for a new guy like me, anyone who is curious of how a novice gets the work done, can see in steps, how info, and work is combined gradually to make a fine end-result.
That, and maybe if i get hung-up with a step, I might get some help...lol
But seriously, I'd love to make a sort-of diary of this, but if ya'll don't want me too, thats fine too.
But, yes, I have taken the first initial steps, although in comparison, they may be small.
But, I did want to get the kit before they were out for good.
I hope that coldsteel will come out with a blank, but not getting my hopes up too much, and I'm gonna grab any receiver item I can find without hesitating, because it scares the crap out of me to not know if I'll ever find one anywhere.
Also, I'm not new to metalworking, I've been in the sheetmetal business for years, and am a professional welder, so those areas are taken care of, I hope. I've got mig and arc welders here, but no tig.
But, I'm sure I can find one or use one at the local paint @ body shop, if the mig won't do it.
So, basically, I hope i can get to learn everyone here, and have a good time, and if ya'll don't mind, I'm gonna get to reading. Just a thought, it looks like making a cam section would be easy. I've done more complex raising jobs with a hammer and stake before on sheet. Not sure what the problem would be other than "measurements"-thats the bad thing is measurements. That, and the metal gets thinner as it's worked toward the edge, leaving it thicker in the unworked areas.
p.s.-I'll post pics of the kit and parts when they get here.
I hope they will be here mid-Jan. like is stated from Centerfire, but I'm not sure how their schedule is going to be. Actually, I hope I'm not blowing hot air, and they send me one, as I don't want to get a letter saying they are refunding-then I'll go somewhere else if I can.
Anyway, I wanted to chime in, and meet everyone, and get the ball rolling on my build.

p.s.-Pirate-you there?, if you know me from Gunco, I was the one going to buy the semi mg-34 from tnw, but I have changed my mind thankfully. I've just GOT to build my own. I'm a kit junky anyway.
If this does not turn out, i'll just go back to the 34---but i'm not quitting until this thing is DONE

Welcome to the board. When you do begin to build, post it here, we may even learn some things from you and ideas you come up with. Need any help, post it.

I did just as you are wanting to. I made a thread of my build. Nobody seemed to mind and I got a lot of great feedback and suggestions. Now mine is done and works great. (on to the MG34!!!) Everyones build thread is bound to show something that others have left out, so it's all good. I look forward to reading your's.

As for the welding method thing. It can be done with a MIG, but you'll get nicer (and easier) results with a TIG. just my two cents.

That way everyone can point out my mistakes......

But, that's a good thing.... :-P
I'll still be shopping for parts and accessories on the net tomorrow, and the next few days. I'll start documenting everything here when the first boxes hit the door.
Reason for all of this is, I've built ak's, semi-subguns, etc., but THIS, this is a little more serious, and one that I'll have to take in stride, and make it right. I know I'll have mistakes, but then again, I don't want it to end up on the back-burner if it gives me fits and makes people want to put me in an asylum.

Yes, I DO hope I can teach new tricks, but I'm sure mine will not be new.
And, yes, I'll appreciate help VERY much if I have a prob.
Hopefully, I won't have too many.
If I need help, I'll try to repay the favor. Thats just how I am.

I liked your lettewr-I look forward to seeing more.You are at the same spot as I am,getting ready.I have also thought about buildind the receiver that way,and I think that the trick may be to start with slightly thicher metal.It will be a little harder to work,but in the end, the thin spots would be the right thickness,and the thick spots ,which will be mostly the flats,can be brought down,as there seems to be a lot of fitting there.I have used this method in auto restoration,when parts are not available. . When you start your build just start a new thread in the build it yourself section - that way you'll get a clean clear step by step others can follow.

Thanks everyone,
when the task begins I'll start the build thread in the "building section".
That was my mistake, here, as when I posted this, I thought I "was" in the build section.
But yes, thank's everyone.
lol-yes, I lurked a while, but I was mainly on one of those "other" forums with subgun@ak builds, so it's kept me shy of here for a while.
Looks like I'm here to stay for a long time, now though, and that's good.

Another new guy here. I got my kit from Centerfire today. It has the cam, so you don't need to worry about that. The only receiver piece is the barrel shroud, and the forward barrel bushing that the recoil booster/flash supressor threads to is torched. The rear cut is flush with the back of the barrel door. We're going to need the barrel bushing repair part and a rear blank with these kits.

I just got the barrel repair bushing from wiselite-a fine piece of machining.My receiver tip looked like yours,and this was just what I needed. ---bil

Oh yes,
glad you posted those pics.
Still waiting on mine from Centerfire, and I emailed Wiselite today, so hope to hear from them soon on the front bushing.
That kit looks great.
I'm seriously thinking of ordering another, for spares.
Sarco put them on their website-196.00-197.00 or so.
They have to be from the same import though, so their won't be any difference.
