Who ordered from CFS...

Post by k75zracer »

My friend just received one of the last kits available from CFS and got a kit in nearly 80% condition, with a brand new barrel also. But, get this, his kit included the nearly priceless CAM SECTION, as well as a front section that was barely touched(around 75% remaining). WOW!!!!! Who else has gotten something that is that good?! Yes, I know that this needs pics. I will provide next time I'm over at his house.

Really,I mean REALLY REALLY I wish I could right now. He is one of the luckiest bastards that I know.... I think that the torch cuts on the reciever are the same as a 3 cut receiver from IO, except that the cut for the 2nd cut is around 1.5 inches behind the cam section, towards the rear of the receiver, as if they didn't know what the proper demill was or they were trying to slip one by, thats why I am asking..... again, what a lucky poop.....:-P

Probably just got luck and got an old demill that was lying around in the warehouse.

Better than the lottery

Ordered another kit from CFS today--just couldn't resist getting a spare at these prices and with these barreled kits going bye bye  .These have to be the nicest, most helpful and conscientious folks I've ever bought from. I contacted them yesterday about the poor condition of my first kit's buttstock, and without question or hesitation I was given a RA number and offered a good stock. Shipping cost on first kit was soooo reasonable and lighting fast. Nothing but praise for their service thus far.

I was told today that they are now shipping their last few kits. Wish I could buy all their remaining kits but, alas, I'm on a fixed income -- and it's FIXED very, very low.

If my second kit arrives with receiver parts you'll be able to hear me celebrating in Mississippi :D -- but I've never hit the jackpot in anything.

I picked up a spare kit from CFS the other day, and other than a stock that was beat with a hammer, it is really in nice shape. The receiver was cut is a strange way also. Half the threads on the front are still there and it was cut behind the camming section. The barrel and all pieces are very nice! The bakelite gripset is near perfect. Not a bad deal for 200 bones. All I need now is a receiver and this will make 3 kits for me. A 4-cut German, a 3-cut Yugo and this Yugo. I love these kits, now I need to get busy this winter. The front piece wasn't included in the kit obviously, it was an extra one. Very nice kit though.

Think I forgot to post that I had to send my barrel back on my first M53 kit. It was literally flaking rust in the bore. But, just like with the buttstock, Centerfire agreeed without hesitation to replace the barrel.

UPS delivered the replacement barrel today and I'm extremely happy with it. The bore is gleaming without any visible scoring whatsoever, and the outside of the barrel shows absolutely NO wear. No kidding. You may be able to see that in the pictures.

So another big thanks to Magnus at CenterFireSystems. He's been very good to me so far.

I am new to the MG42 world and would like to ask a question about the kit I received from CFS. I want to know what additional parts are needed to put one of these together as a SA. I know I have to get a rear receiver section and modify the FCG and bolt, but what other peices are needed? Maybe this is not to dumb a question to start with.
Thanks, Dan

The only thing I can suggest Dan, is to allot yourself about 12 hours and just start reading this site from top to bottom. First place to start is Pirates EXCELLENT tutorial which I used to build mine last year. Good luck...

RE: the bad barrel. Getting a replacement is they way to go when possible, but flaking in the barrel can be removed and with proper cleaning, you'd think it was never bad to start with. The trick is heating the barrel and cleaning while it's hot. Really hot, so hot that you wear a pair of thick gloves to keep from being burned by the heated up cleaning rod.

I restored a high-turrent 98k sniper rifle for a guy. I used carburetor cleaner on a bronze bore brush, while spinning the cleaning rod with an electric drill. After wearing out 4 brushes, the bore looked safe to shoot, just dull and dark as hell. I fired 20 shots as fast as possible, then cleaned it some more (wear gloves to keep from being burned). After it was cool again, I heated it the same way a second time, but used bore cleaner and copper solvent, and wore out a few more brushes. After that I used Nev-R-Dull, which is a can of cotton wadding that's been treated with a metal polishing liquid. I ended up with a sofball sized pile of filthy black wadding as it dissolved the tarnish, and then finally the bore was clean. I took the rifle back to the original seller and the first thing he asked was how I got the serial number to match on the replacement barrel. He sold the gun cheap because it looked so bad, you'd think there were spider nests in it. The bore is still a slightly frosty looking, but the gun would sell for a few thousand dollars more now. The barrels were made from good enough steel that they'll clean surprising well even after severe abuse.

Welcome Dan. You can't get any better advice than what Cruiser gave you. There is so much information here that you might call it the encyclopedia of the SA-42 build. When I got the bug, I sat down and read every post on every subject starting at the beginning. Any questions I had were answered in a very helpful and informative way. I couldn't have built my SA without their help.
Sometimes I think that one of the more enterprising individuals here should put together a manual based on the information presented on this site. And market it for the benefit of the site. A donation to the site as it were.
If the information about WLA making new recievers is correct , that should create more building of the SA-42. One of the guys here makes new barrels, someone makes new barrel bushings and now maybe new rear reciever sections. What more could you ask for?
Since I first found this site many moons ago, there has been a tremendous influx of information added to the site. You have a lot of reading ahead of you.
BTW, are you the Dan Diesel who came up with the FCG design for the M31 Suomi? Excellent work.

Yes propos, I have been working on the suomi with others at the weaponeer site. The main influence over there on the m31 is Tommerr. We are swapping components back and forth trying to get the fcg and Tom's bolt conversion nailed down. Good things to come in 07 if the Dems leave us alone with our hobby, but thats for another post. I just wanted to try out a build with a little more mass to it, something you don't just pick up and put to your shoulder........... of course.....unless you are Rambo.

Well Dan, you can put an SA-42 to your shoulder but you won't be holding it there for long. :D I'm waiting on Tommerr and the others to finalize the particulars before I start on my Suomi. I've a PPS43 in the works now also. Building my SA-42 created a monster. I keep picking up kits to build. Might try a 34 one of these days or a PKM. I believe I got my buddy hooked now. I gave him a Romy kit earlier this year. He has been dragging his feet on it, so I bought him an 80% receiver for Christmas. Heh,heh. Now he's checking the AK sites on building one.
Building this SA-42 and the knowledge I gained from doing so has given me the confidence and know-how to build other firearms. I never welded before but now I fire up the welder when I have something that I need welded. Couldn't have done that before.

I ordered a kit from CFS early in December and it was waiting for me when I got home today. It has the cam, but the barrel bushing is toast. No rear receiver pieces. Barrel is a bit grungy but rifling is strong. Not bad for $200.

I know its been said before, that 8mm barrel by itself is worth what you paid for the whole kit. Looks like your going to have one heck of a cleaning project coming up!

Nice and greasy-lol-I always loved the smell of cosmoline.
Yep, I'm glad you posted those pics, because I'm waiting on mine, and now I know what to look forward to.
That rifling looks great, actually.
Rear section, semi fcg, and front bushing, and we've got it.
I'm thinking of ordering another just for the barrel, and to have spares.
I've looked over all kinds of parts kits in 2006, and this one at 200 bones, is about the best deal out there.
Even if the cut sections are not there.
Ahhhh, now i've got to get one or two more......will it ever end?
All we have to do now is hold out for the wiselite, or coldsteel rear sections.
The front bushing I'm getting from wiselite.

UPS delivered my backordered kit today, too. I paid an extra $20 for a handpick. My last kit had a rusted-out barrel, carved-up buttstock, and an "engraved" top cover. (CFS replaced the barrel and buttstock.) In addition, the receiver had been torched just behind the rear sight so that the raised nubs that locate the camming assembly were missing. So I hoped that the handpick fee would help avoid these issues.

It did. The barrel is used, but really nice with clean, shiney bore; the receiver has camming assembly locating nubs; the buttstock is acceptable; and the topcover is unmolested. There are no German parts. (The last kit had a waffened bipod.) I haven't cleaned the parts of cosmo yet, and I haven't inventoried all the small parts, but it looks like I have a decent kit for a good build.
