Got the receiver pieces where to section

Post by pmcbs »

Now that I have the parts where would you guys splice these before welding? I’m thinking about cutting around the charging handle plate?

It's just me, but I would avoid the top section other than the cam port piece. Because
the rivet hole will be a bugger to fill, and clean, and possible re-tap. The lower IMA sections
will go together nicely, and you can mate the top BRP cam port right at the rail window.
At least that's what I'd do. Maybe not the best way, just easiest.

Here's what I did with a set of parts like yours. The places I cut them eliminated most of the bad rivet grinds, and still kept the cocking handle rail in only two pieces.

If it was my project I'd take the ratchet plate off and replace it with one from BRP , and try to use as much of the cam section of the receive as i could even if i needed to remove and re-rivet the rear sight base back on to save the front edge of the cut , you will loose a little from the back edge it looks like.

I don't think I'd use any of the rear section shown on top.

Its amazing anything works right around here with a bunch of
over-age juvenile delinquents running the place.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I’m not in a big rush because I haven’t found a barrel bearing except for the group buy on weaponeer. So might just try to fill in the grinder gouges on the top section and see what happens.
