recuperator plunger too long

Post by limalima »

I find that the recuperator plunger (the piece that bears against the barrel) is about 1/4 inch too long making it impossible to install the barrel without depressing the plunger with a screwdriver first. I have added a spacer which holds the plunger in the recuperator housing far enough to allow a barrel to be installed but am puzzled by the problem. I have other plungers but they are all the same length. The receiver dimensions appear to be in order - fits in lafette mount and barrel gate closes and latches fine. Has anyone else encountered this problem? :?:

The nut was is and reversing it shotened the plunger but not enough to allow the barrel to be inserted. I made a spacer that solved the problem.

Sounds like you have receiver dimension problems or something. Should just be able to go right in.

can I sugest beveling the head of the plunger instead of the spacer ?
not having seen it i'm concerned it may work loose and removing the recuperator to reinstall it would not be fun.

Just grind and polish it a little to fit. That's what I did and it works fine now. Tweeking that's what it's all about when you build. Nothing is perfect and if you find the perfect one send it my way...LOL.....Slowfinger

I had to stone the bevel on the front plunger before the barrel would go in. It wasn't much but just enough to allow the barrel to seat. Slowfinger is right. You have some tweaking to do with these rebuilds. I don't care how careful you are welding the receiver. I had to cut one side of the front section of mine and re-align it. When the welds cooled it was pulled to the right slightly. Cutting and rewelding cured that. Windage is dead on now.

Thanks for all the help Guys. A little bevel and polishing with the retaining nut in the right direction solved the problem. Drooling Idiot's link was a really big help.
