.308 MG3 Booster?

Post by vulcan762 »

Well I received my .308 kit from Dangola and like everything else firearms related I promptly immeresed myself in all things MG42 related. This led me to wonder...

Should I buy an Mg3 booster for my .308 MG? I think I have the 8mm booster. Thoughts?

All will depend on the "look" that you want on the end of your gun.....and if you are trying to set it up as an MG3?....or as an MG42?

The MG3 Flash-Hider with build-in cup is not a requirement....unless you just want the MG3 "look".

The MG42 will operate with the 7.62x51mmNATO Parts installed....and the addition to the smaller Booster-Cup (Nozzle) hole-size rerquired for 7.62x51mmNATO/.308
This has been addressed in earlier "threads".

THE 8MM AND 308 BOOSTERS are the same, i believe the only difference the hole diameter in the cup that coes inside the booster :D

What TomR is trying to say is.......if you are using an MG42 Flash-Hider....the booster-cups (nozzles) are only different in the center hole-size that the bullet passes through.
(Note: The MG3 Flash-Hider has the booster-cup/nozzle built/machined into it as one part).

Don't quote me...but I believe that 8x57mm guns use 13-14mm ..and the 7.62x51mmNATO/.308 uses a 10-11mm hole-size booster-cup/nozzle ?

One item that will effect you rate of fire is the two differnt length Barrel-Bearings. The two that I have measured are:
1: 1.970" long (will give you more RPM....but a harsher recoil).
2: 1.865" long (will give you a slighly lower RPM....but less harsh on the operation system).
(Note: The longer barrel-bearing will keep the high-pressure inside the cup/nozzle area a split-second longer until the barrel w/barrel-bearing attached is pushed to the rear during firing and goes past the rear-openings in the flash-hider....which dumps excess pressure out to the sides).

Thanks guys. Looks like i can either keep what I have or buy a dedicated MG3 booster but either one should work for me.

If you install a "dedicated" MG3 Booster/Flash-Hider on your MG42/SA42........make sure that the forward indexing "finger" will fit the size "slots" that go around the outside rear of your MG3 Booster. Sometimes the MG3 Boosters have a set of slots that are more narrow....and the MG42 indexing "finger" will not set in them...allowing the booster to unscrew during firing.
