My receiver I ordered from Dan came today. All I can say is WOW! :o The only way I could be happier is if somebody didn't cut it up. I got a great parts kit already, but a 4 cut receiver from Allegheny. The receiver they cut the crap out of the barrel bushing, but I was actually able to find one on Gunbroker for it. The guy was selling a flash suppressor and it came with it! This new one will be easier to rebuild though. 8)

Got my two recievers from Dan a couple days ago and WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Now I need kits to fill them in with!
I'm an absolute Steyr nut and Dan hooked me up with two of them. Now I don't know the codes for these but I'll post pics of the two ol' girls tommorrow and you all can check them out.

When I pulled them out they were a silver white color and looked almost sand blasted. I asked Dan about it and he said that these were white phosphated recievers (duo-tone in Folkes). Does someone have any more info on these as I'm awfully interested in learning more about them as I thought all 42's were blued.

Dan,
Do you happen to have topcovers, feedtrays, gripsticks, and boosters to match these that I have?????? After experiencing the quality of your recievers I wish I had ordered complete kits now :D :lol: (but then how the hell can I feed 4 42's???? :o )

I noticed that mine was white as well. Like it had been sandblasted. That is good info on what it is. If anything it sure makes it a lot easier to work on because you can see inside as well as outside :-P

Yup I agree ctyankee. I just don't know if I will be able to match it to any of my parts??? Does anyone know anything about these?????

Here are pics of my two. It was kind of a weird feeling to be able to install the trigger housing. Sort of reminded me of the old days when the demil was nice 8)

Posting one pic and links to the rest to save bandwidth.

Manf Codes

Post by Dan@AngolaArmory »

Sorry for the late reply guys, been too busy filling your orders.

Camming pieces (trunion is a misnomer) are numbered to themselves only, not to the gun.

Here are the manf codes and dates, someone (Steve, Tom?) should make a sticky out of this info.

AR= Mauser, J.T. is 1943, D.F. is 1944, D.F. with dd mark is 1945

dfb= Gustloff, F.G. is late 1943, M.U. is 1944, S.M. with svq mark is 1945

cra= Maget, GH is 1943, NC is 1944, NC with swd mark is 1945

bnz= Steyr, GZ is late 1943, PJ is 1944, PJ with swj mark is late 1944, XE with swj mark is 1945

bpr= Grossfuss, only used in 1942

As noted in Myrvang's book, pg 134, the marks indicate the factory that assembled the guns as Grossfuss stamped most of the receivers for all but Steyr.

FWIW,
Dan

You guys are making me drool. I talked to Dan today about my kit that I ordered. I thought that he was shipping wood butt stccks with them and I really wanted a black phenolic? one. No problem as he said that he was shipping kits with the black stocks. Most of the wooden ones are apparently in very sad shape. In any case mine is being shipped out this Monday. Woohoo! It's going to be a long week until the kit arrives. Then the fun begins. :D

Hey, isn't there someway to rehydrate wood stocks to pull the dents and dings out of them? I think you boil them or something??????

EZ,
You can place a damp cloth over the stock and use a stock iron http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ ... 20&s=31593 (or soldering iron) to help raise the dents. You should first use Easy Off or Whiting http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ ... 133&s=4041 to remove all the oil from the stock or the steam won't penetrate the grain enough to make them swell.
After you're done with that, you can use a mix of boiled linseed oil and turpentine to add essential oils to the wood to protect it from rot and moisture and to build up a finish. (alte Schule)
Or, apply your favorite stain and seal with polyurethane!

To keep the grain from rising , use steam on the spot were the ding/dent is - keeping the rest of the wood away from it.
