Ohio Ordnance Works

Post by narviklied »

I live 30 minutes for Bob Landis Ohio Ord and visit the place every 6 months. You guys should be buying every part you can from him. He has two crates 4' x4'x 4' of MG34 and MG42 barrel carriers. All near new and all with original paint under the Romi slopped on paint. Acetone and a rag removes most. I have seen carriers with the original barrels unissued just beautiful. He sells carriers for $35-40 and they come with Orig sling. He has very nice barrels as well. His MG42 parts are not great, mostly pre Romi,Yugo, Austrian sell off stuff, MG1-MG3 era and pretty beat. His inventor of ammo boxes and belts are all from the Port sell off years ago, so very nice. Also has new made Lafette sight blocks, and range data tables that are very nice, and I am picky.

I ordered 2 MG34 barrel carriers from them. Or thought I did. Only got one but was only billed for one. Darn thing was like new. Does have an overpaint but mint condition. beq1943 . Apparently had a cosmo covered barrel in it. You can see the finger marks of the person who put it in the carrier. Sling is very nice on it. Looks like they are embossed with LUX. I don't know if the sling is original or not though. Will definately buy more.

Clean the sling

Post by narviklied »

All the slings for these carriers should be german rayon weave and they are usually filthy with grease cosmo and dirt. I carefully pry the lux keeps open with a sharp flat tool like a wood chisel or gasket scraper, and the soak the sling in automotive hand cleaner like Gojo. Rinse out the hand cleaner after a week, and reinstall the keeper. Now you have a perfect sling. If there is a rust spot on it.... go to Kmart and in the household section look for Wink rust remover. Brown 8oz bottle. Wet th esling area with the rust spot and then squirt a little Wink onto it. It is actually a mild phospahting solution and will convert he rust back to iron. Then immediately rinse it well, and wash with soap and water. No more rust spots! Remember...Paint colors. Orange primer, finish coat...Panzer grey or Ord green up to 1942, and only Ord tan 1943 or later.

Sling is nice and clean. A few mouse nips at the edges but gives it the used look without being too new looking.
Very pleased. Will be ordering another one or two and a 42 holder.

I'll be at Louisville this upcoming weekend. Will report back if they, or others, have anything new or interesting.
