DANGOLA KITS ROCK!!!! Now with pics

Post by Brass Scrounger »

BBT arrived this afternoon with a box from your truly. Folks, this kit CANNOT be compared to anything else offered recently. German markings all over the place execpt the barrel (7.62), feed tray and the other little bits for the feed. Even the barrel extension had a Eagle/Swastika on it. The receiver - all matching cuts for those who are worried about it. This one came with a black bakelite stock with only one chipped area where it really doesn't show anyway. Second best thing about the kit...The Bumper Sticker! That'll make the mundanes here in IL raise an eyebrow, or break out in a sweat!

The pics doesn't do the kit justice. While the receiver pieces look like maganese it actually has a nice zinc phosphate coating - will unfortunately do a maganese when done.

EDIT - Discovered that I had a broken recuperator after leaving some flesh behind putting the other springs in! See the Sticky Forum for assembly directions. Ever see a 43 yo dance around the room with a recuperator dangling from his finger? Called Dan and he is sending a replacement out Monday (Dan, if you're reading this - no big rush - get those kits out to the rest of the folks first - gonna be a week or two before I'm ready for it anyway.)

Know this fellas, Dan is busting some major butt right now. Yes, he was still packing/shipping kits when I called today (Saturday). Bear in mind that some of the pins in these kits were peened in at time of manufacture 60 some odd years ago - these pins were punched out - making them not readily reuseable. The only reason Dan put them with the kits is so you can measure the length/diameter and find suitable material to make a replacement . As I recall, his ad mentions something about "some pins may be missing". A trip to Homo Depot and $5 will get you all the stuff you'll need to make pins.

When I opened the box here at work a few comments were made about how scruffy the stock looked. Oy! Scratched/gouged stock? For crying out loud THESE WERE MILITARY WEAPONS, not some pampered Tiffany lamp. Dings, scratches, chips and like are to be expected. I consider them to be "Character Flaws".

BTW, The return address on the box is "A Village Locksmith" - hows that for a "discreet, plain brown wrapper"?Image

I will agree that "Dan's" DEMILed MG42 receivers could not be improved upon......always matched sections......and I have not found any that were cut through any area that could not be repaired, so building a semi-only "SA42" will not be a problem.

Really,......I think that the only problem that we will have with "Dan's" DEMILed receiver (purchased with a parts-kit...or by themselves) will be that Dan may just not have enough of them for the demand once the word gets out.

Be safe, RichardS.

FXO,

it would be worth the time posting / tacking a trunnion swap thread somwhere, i'm sure others will be looking to reunite 'lost' trunnions.

It's like Christmas

It's like Christmas all over again, but better. I got my MG42 kit delivered yesterday andspent most of today fitting pieces and doing some minor grinding. The receiver cuts are weldable. The kit was in good shape. I got a bakelite stock thats been around the block but it will clean up nicely with some epoxy and a coat of Alumahyde paint (worked well on FAL stocks and handguards). My receiver is a CRA and had a well worn zinc park(I think), it was damn near silver. I have to finish my welding bench and fire up the new TIG. To top it off, I got my two demilled receivers from IMA yesterday and got to play with those as well.

According to to Folke the camming piece was numbered to itself but not to the gun. Just what I heard.

Were the kits supposed to come with a bi-pod? I just got a chance to go through all the parts. There was no bi-pod in my box. PM'd Dan to find out.

I talked to him on Friday Dan will send them when he gets them in. Apparently none of us read the packing sheet with his note on it in our speed to tear out the parts. Any way it won't be more than a few weeks.

Dan emailed me with the same information. How can you actually take the time to read a packing list when you are fondling all those great parts?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I didn't make out as well as some, not complaining, mines just gonna take a tad longer to get done.

it looks like the torch monkey decided to take a drag from his Cig just as he was cutting by the receiver markings - everywhere else the cuts are great but in-that-one-spot  they pooched it. If any of the cuts will need donor material this will be the one. The markings are there, but they aren't going to survive cleanup and welding intact.

Same said monkey took more receiver than rivet when removing the right side rail, looks like I'll need to weldup and redrill those. On the plus side, I determined which rail belonged to which side by matching the drill swirl on the receiver to the rivets.

Looks like my grip stick retaining piece is cracked on the 'L' bend the Recoup rests against - I'll need to switch that out or weld it.

Again, I'm not taking a cheap shot at Dan, I recognize the Demill an't being done by surgeons and the guns likely shot more rounds than I can imagine and been handled by 3rd world draftee's since the day came out of a crate.
