Parts conversion update

Post by Pirate »

I just wanted to post an update for all of you who sent parts for conversions. for the
past 2 weeks I have been extremly busy at work and did not have time to work on parts.
I was able to start my vacation a day early today and have gotten a lot done. I will
have all the bolt conversions done by tomorrow and should have all the grips done by
wed and in the mail by no later than thurs. Thanks for your patience.
I will be very busy at work the first 2 weeks of jan and will not take anymore parts for
conversion untill I can do them in a timely manner. I don't want your parts sitting here
collecting dust, and don't want to upset anyone for not delivering on time as promised.
I have plenty of parts ready to ship for all of you who want to do your own conversions.

Got all the bolts done today except for 2 that had a problem. the bolt extensions with the
spring loaded feed studs do not lend themselves to the conversion process. the studs being
thinner will eventually break off. If you have one like in the photo, you will need to get a solid
type stud or replace he bolt carrier.
For those of you who only sent a bolt yours will ship on tuesday. I will start on the gripsticks
Monday and should have all your parts on the way to you by thursday.
Thanks for your patience

If anyone wants to swap a spring loaded bolt housing for one that isn't spring loaded, let me know. It doesn't make any difference to me whether mine is spring loaded or not, so if someone is in need, here I am.

I started on the grips today and have almost all of them cut out to weld. My old faithfull
Ryobi grinder went out in a spactular burst of smoke and flame. I continued on with a
dremel that blew out a few hours later, it was almost new, what a peice of crap!
While working on the grips I came to 3 conclusions:

1. The hammers need to have the bases ground on a surface grinder to keep the faces parallel.
So I will take them to the machine shop and have them done properly.
2. In order to ensure that the hammer and trigger pins are perfectly parallel, the plates need
to be welded to the grip in a jig.
3. After being modified the grips should be blasted and parkerized to look finished.

In order to do all this it is going to take a few more days, as it will result in a better conversion
I don't think anyone will mind the wait. I will have all the parts ready to ship by Jan 3.

I started welding the grips today, I got one finished and blasted it and gave it a black
oxide coating. a photo is posted below so you can see what yours will look like. I hope
to have all the welding done tomorrow, and plan on blasting and doing the black oxide
sunday. The hammers will be ready tuesday, so I should start shipping on wed and thurs.
I have more grip parts and fal parts on the way and will resume doing conversions in
about 3 weeks. I need to recover form "vacation", have some time to play with my toys
and get the 34 project and bren project rolling.

If anyone needs to trade a spring loaded feed stud bolt carrier for a solid feed stud, please let me know.

I have a Yugo solid feed stud bolt carrier for trade.

Thanks,

the bolt mod that pirate did for me works like a champ on my build. Perfect fit! So if anyone is wondering how pirate's service is, well it is outstanding! I'm waiting for the trigger group to be finished and then I can do my test fire. Pirate take you time!

cruizer, are you anywhere near ABQ?

Pirate, are you planning another run of parts soon?

I get the feeling a lot of people may be getting kits from Dan and need your services.

I finally got the hammers back from the machine shop today. I will start assembling tonight
and hopefully have all your parts shipped by sat or monday. Thanks for your patience.

I have more stuff being made and should be ready to start shipping kits and doing more conversions in 2 weeks. I need some time to work on my stuff and to get a couple of
other projects rolling again, one being the mg34 reweld.

I have been getting a lot of pm's and emails with questions I try to answer them promptly, If you haven't heard back from me contact me again.

If you have questions check the chat as I usually am there for a while at night, and I will try to answer any questions you have

Another batch of parts is ready to go on monday. I ran out of fal fcg parts and g3 pins on the last couple of sets of grips. more were ordered last week and should be here the first of the week, so all your stuff will be on its way back to you this week.
I have a bolt that got seperated from its paperwork, if you sent a bolt and did not get it
back pm me it is ready.

I have a few sets of bolt parts so if you need a bolt done pm me. The grip parts should be here within a week and I will be ready to do more soon.
