Yes, an update would be nice on the reproductions. I sure would like to have one of these myself!

No action as yet on the soaker cans. They are not exactly on the "High Prority List" With the holidays right around the corner, it looks like they won't get started until after the new year starts. Any details on the metric threads?

couldn't you just use pipe weld on a bottom and thread the other end? hardest thing is a cap that style :? thought a water jacket plug for a car engine looks close

88comm,

Since this will be a reproduction anyway, why not use a standard English thread that appears close to the original??? I would not mind that myself.

The cap does appear to be the toughest part to duplicate. I wonder if a threaded pipe cap may work by machining the outside to appear like the original and then bore the inside for the new threads?? Just some thoughts.

All good ideas. I'll start by checking out some plumbing to see if the ID is 2" . A cap from a plumbing cap would be easy. As noted, just turn it down, then add a Knurl to it. If this works they will be relatively cheap. Will keep you updated on the "Economy Model".

I want a can REALLY bad, but I am not going to pay even the starting price of the one listed on Gunbroker. I will wait on "88comm" to fabricate a reproduction and buy from him!

I am working on a "deal" for several of these and will keep this board posted if I can come to "terms" with the owner of these (all MG42 type). Unknown condition and price at this time.....but I will post that as soon as I hear something from the owner.

Be safe, RichardS.

The can on Gunbroker looks like an MG34 can, in which case they guy is overpriced.

Chris,
You stated that the cap is 3/4" thick but adds a 1/4" to the OAL. How thick is the washer? I am assuming the thickness of the cap is fairly uniform. Is the O.D. thread about 1/2"

thickness of the washer is 68/1000. The depth of the cap measuring from the inside of the top to the bottom edge is .65" The threaded section on the side of the cap is about .46". The collar which is tack welded to the can and then threaded is .515" high. It is tacked onto the can 50/1000" below the top of the can.
