ww.1 Luger

Post by Damien Horn »

Hi,
I have a Luger in my collection that is a WW.1 example. I am hoping that some of you gun enthusiasts can help me and let me know what the stamping on the front strap means. It reads as follows:
2MG K JR 344 N56, I have an idea that its 2nd Machine Gun Company Infantry Regiment 344...that as far as I can go and am not sure even if its correct. If the regiment is correct does anyone know where they fought. I bought this gun a number of years ago and it was left here on the Island of Jersey by a German Officer after WW.2
Feel free to email me at damienhorn@jerseymail.co.uk

I think you are on the right track as far as interpreting the markings. The guys are Luger Forum can help at
http://www.lugerforum.com/

I posted a message with your photo there asking for their help in transcribing the markings. We should hear back in less than two days.
