WTB.. mg42 barrel carrier sling or even just the buckles

Post by needaclip »

I'm trying to make up a replacement sling for my panzerschreck and the crimped buckles on barrel carriers look very similar if not the same as the original schreck slings. If I can round up a couple of buckles I was going to try and use some DAK webbing straps to fab one up.

Thanks all

Good call D.A. Here's what I could dig up. First are pics of the LUX marked fittings on the MG42 single barrel carriers.

Here are pics of the fittings used on panzerschreck slings. They look very similar if not exactly the same.

Thanks needaclip! I have two original barrel carriers, and your pics told me that the slings are original and not added by the Russians. My barrel carriers were recently brought back from Russia by some English Merchants I met at the Tulsa OK gunshow. My first impression of the green web slings and buckles was that they looked like Russian replacements. Nice to know they are original.

No problem D.A..... I'm still looking for some hardware. I'll even buy a complete trashed out carrier just for the sling hardware.

The sling hardware can be replicated in the shop from thin sheetmetal and some careful application of hand tools, such as punches, files, and snips. You just need some 20 gauge sheetmetal, and the proper sized and colored webbing material. You can cut and file the buckles by hand after fashioning a paper pattern to work off of.
