Double Drum ?'s

I just got my first double drum set & have a few ?'s. I think these are to be carried 2 in a hand like the ammo cans because of the offset handles. I noticed a bracket on the upper & lower part of the bottom / back side. I don't think these are a reinforcement bracket, as the sides don't have anything. It looks to me like some sort of dual locking pin fits in the 2 holes on each bracket. Is that what was done, and where do you find any? What is the going rate TODAY for a marked double drum set with 2 marked drums? I saw that IMA had 2 types of double drum sets: 1 with a "transport" frame & 1 with a "carry" frame.What is the difference & which one do I have? TIA (I'm not used to these 'net terms; sounds like a porn term to me!)

You're lucky to get BOTH drums as WWII German and not have a postwar Yugo drum mixed in!

Thanks DA. I did buy them as all marked. How close are the Yugo drums to the German WWII ones? Are the Yugo frames like the German ones?

I would like to challenge this train of thought that somehow the post-war Yugo ammo cans and carry frame are not WW2 issue. All of the ugly Yugo green colour cans were all mfg. during the war with dates and production codes...all of them. After the war these cans were sold in a post-war enviroment and colours changed to be intergrated into their inventory.

While the Yugo colour is terrible...cans of this nature are less valuable....but it cannot be stated or somehow implied that they were made after the war.....................

I think it is generally accepted (right or wrong) that the unmarked drums are Yugo mfg.

Of course........basket ammo cans or carry frame assy. with no type of markings....are the bad...bad Yugo...almost useless for collectors and only okay for the active shooters on the range.

Do you suppose the plates with the rolled up ears are to keep the carrier centered on the bracket that Chuckm is looking for a picture of?

MGMike, that makes a-lot more sense than pins going into the rolled ends. Too bad there are no photos of a bracket.

Here are some photos that show the bracket and how it holds the belt drum carrier. Also a photo of on installed in a KFZ2. They used the brackets in all sorts of vehicles. The brackets do not show up to often. The repainted green bracket in the photo was found on a ground dug Kubelwagen door in the Ukraine.

Bracket on Door of KFZ2. This vehicle is in the Victory Museum in Indiana. Worth the visit, plan to spend a full day at least.

blitzbikes has a ammo carrier listed under sidecar accesseries next to a double drum carrier. interesting to look at, new manufacture I think.
