Double MG42 mounts from Robert RTG

Post by Demontrooper »

Woah! Did you guys see these?! Double MG42 mounts from RTG for $900.
What an awesome price (almost as cheap as a Laffete....). Unfortunately they cannot be shipped and only available by pick up from their "base" in Arizona. Damn.

What do you guys think?

P.S. Sorry that I cannot paste in a link; I am using a Mac right now and I have no idea how to past in the link since this friggin Mac mice do not have right buttons.....

Double MG3 mounts were selling on Germany's ebay for as little as $75....

Here's a link to one for less than that:

There were guys who had a few dozen who were asking for offers on the lot. Shipping wouldn't be cheap, but the mounts sure were.

If you want a nice single MG mount for a pedestal, I have one for sale - $150 plus $8.10 postage. It pivots left/right, up/down, twists to let you keep the gun level, and has a spring loaded recoil absorber in it. It was originally made to go in a ring mount, but the ring mounts were 60 pounds, so I didn't get one of those.

The curved part on the left is the brass deflector. It goes under the ejection port. It attaches to the gun in the rear bipod slot and on the lafette block that are on the bottom of the barrel jacket about where the rear sight is. Overall length is about 14".

I played with one, It's heavy! More stuff to lug to the range! I know people who have one and have never used it, because it a pain to move  I think you could build one lighter and use the MG42 AA tripod as the base, like Emory Jones's dual 1919a4 mount.

I don't know exactly how much it weighs, but the vendor estimated 300 pounds for the base, the mount, and a pallet. Sounds about right. I do have one, haven't used it yet. Got it from Cole's for $700 I think. Shipping is expensive unless you know how to work the system. Most shippers will quote you something in the high $300's through the $400's. However, I signed up online for an account with a discount LTL (Less Than Truck Load) shipping broker. I did a little research and contacted a shipping company to figure out the proper class code (you need a class code to ship freight). I got mine shipped from Kentucky all the way to the West Coast for $119. Yup, $119. (BTW, I recall checking and finding out that you cannot ship ammo this way.)

Several things affect price: 1) If you can pick it up from the trucking copany's terminal, they love it and give a price break. I showed up with a pickup truck and they forklifted the pallet right into the back. No fuss no muss. 2) If they have to make a delivery to a residential location or one without a loading dock, they jack the price up because they have to send a truck with a lift on the back. 3) Same as #2 if the shipper does not have a loading dock.

Just to see how much of a difference it made going through the discount LTL broker, I called THE SAME trucking company that was hauling my shipment and asked them for a quote (exact same details). They quoted me around $400. Obviously, it made a huge difference. I used The Freight Rate Co. for this about two years ago so YMMV. Here is their link:

Woops! I had not seen double mts for sale in quite some time; the last one being on GunsAmerica for 2k. Now, why the hell do these things cost less then Lafette mounts :? ?! I mean the former are much more desireable I could imagine, and compact, but the amount of workmanship and material would make a double mount worth, well, $900 I could imagine.

Also, thanks alot for the info on shipping Wondering! I had not thought of something like that (I prefer to get raped by UPS??? :? )

One of those was just sold on gunbroker for 515.00. I have been told that it is hard to keep both guns running consitantly on the mount.

This past weekend, my wife and I took a trip to Quebec City and on the way back home, we stopped at Numrich Arms (Gun Parts Corp) and picked up a couple of these twin mounts. I'm going to drill some holes in the bed of my pick up so I can mount one when I go to the range or when the SHTF. They told me that the leg set and the mount together weigh about 230 lbs. Haven't had time to play with it much.

The guys at Numrich are first class. Bill who works the counter was extremely helpful and Greg remained patient while I sorted through their stock in order to get the best of the bunch. Then Greg gave me a tour of the facility. Holy cow. I'd love to work there. I knew they had a lot of stuff but you have no idea until you actually see it in person.
