Have you seen a german film called "the bridge"?, cool MG42 footage with the correct sound!, and the lamest tanks ever!. good flick.
Never give a sucker an even break, unless that sucker can break you in even halves!
it will be in the import section (german film) "die brucke" , made in 1959. It is about a group of youngsters (teens) that get drafted in '45 and are told to guard a bridge in there home town as the americans come.....very primitive compared to hollywood, but the guns and story are very watchable.

Actually there was only one MP44 in Die Brucke. One of the kids was carrying it when they arrived at the bridge. When the action starts, look closer at this "MP44". It mutates from the real one he was carrying earlier into some sort of MP40/MP44 hybrid. The barrel and mag look MP40-ish while the back half still look MP44-ish.
The gun soon jams or runs empty, then the kid pulls out his pistol he brought from home and fires it. Soon after that he gets taken out by a sniper and we see no more of the MP44.
Lots of good action with the pair of MG42s the kids use in this movie. And there was some panzerfaust use as well. I really like this movie.
BTW Cross of Iron can be found on Ebay, but is usually no cheaper than buying it direct from IHF.

MG 42 in the movies
There was a film made in Yugoslavia starring Yul Brynner as a partisan fighting the Germans. LOTS of MG42/MG53 action in this one. It was foreign made. I've got the VHS somewhere packed away. I believe it was called Bridge at Nevetra, or something like that.
