A Little Video

Post by ritter01 »

I happened across this video recently in a discussion thread in a different forum. Suprised to see my son and I in the video. Segment :46-1:25 shows us shooting our vickers and our 08 maxim side by side. Segment 2:27-2:57 shows closer view of the vickers running. Also for those interested around 3:40 shows me shooting our boys rifle. This video was shot at a shoot we attend in Southern Ohio, the SOMG Shoot. Hope you enjoy.

Very nice video, Rich! Always fun to watch the "family fun". I'm from SW Ohio originally too, sure wish they had this shoot when I was still there.

BTW, you can now embed YT vids directly, when posting just click the 'video' button at the far right of the posting tool bar and paste in the same link and you get the YT player right there, like this:

...saves having to follow a link, plus you get that neat movie player view right in the post. ;-)

TomH, thanks for the heads up on the how to post video. I think shooting has been one of those things that has kept my son and I close. It helped through the "teen years" when they try to expand horizons beyond the family. I have seen not many 16, 17 year old that want to still hang with dad. Always gave us a chance to talk and something to talk about. Even when I knew he did not think I was very "with it"

Here is a better view of the 08 maxim running. This video was shot Saturday at a local shoot we have. My son is the one behind the gun.http://www.youtube.com/user/maximvicker ... 01-RBpWNUE[/video]

What ammo is that? I'm surprised to see it running that fast without a booster.

The ammo is Bulgarian heavy ball ammo, 1950s production bullet weight 182 grs. I originally bought 12k rounds. This shoot consumed the last bit I had. I never run a booster with heavy ball ammo.

I see that and can't help thinking of WW I,before the real impact of the MG was full realised, and the row after row of British,French, and Commonwealth soldiers going over the top in long waves, into the face of this. What a waste! :( ---bil PS-thanks for the link-nice gun! :D

Bravery and Ignorance... Later in the war as the really brave ones had died off and the troops knew what was coming, you start to see the end of this blind running into slaughter. Hell the French just about had a revolution in French Army Mutinies (1917). Of course the Christmas truce is very interesting too.

WWI really is amazing... it was the death of Europe. WWII being nothing more than last grasp and nailing the coffin shut. Both sides won battles but all lost the war. Power shifted to the West and East and out of Europe. It really is a shame that the Europian culture did not take that one more step and unify. For all the harm the US Civil war caused at least the US people lost their identity as states and we became Americans. The Brits, Germans and French still don't understand that their fates are intertwined. It really was suicide that they ran bravely and foolishly into!
