M53 kits are coming with the shroud cut through the nose taking out the front bushing and just aft of the sight/barrel door:
Or a close up from weaponeer:
In trying to figure out whether to replace or repair the shroud, I've been searching for dimensions/drawings of the shroud but it seems most of what's been posted has been based on having all/most of the shroud/receiver parts and being able to reweld.
Does anyone know of a resource showing dimensions of the aft shroud (mid full receiver) area?
If I'm understanding correctly, the Apex Camming Sections would be welded to the aft shroud after cutting it square. Then the camming section would be trimmed as needed and attached to the receiver? https://www.apexgunparts.com/product_in ... cts_id/161
I know this option is also available, but means more money and moving everything over:
Well that last option has some merit in the fact the you get a non yugo front sight base and an aircraft sight base. Check out the brp website for those drawings as I believe that they are there.
Also wiselite might still or will some time later again offer their wiselite rear receiver that will cover the rear area completely. Also oakrodent was offering a original German mg42 rear that would work with that wiselite midsection.

Lots of things to think about.
Later 42rocker
If I wasn't pessimistic, I might think wiselite might make a re-entry into the mg42. However, I can see from posting history amongst the various forums as well as part kit supplies, that that wouldn't be a great marketing strategy.
If you find a repair bushing, the barrel will set OAL by the locking piece hitting the internal stop. add a dime between barrel and barrel bearing to save your bearing guides. search my posts for dime for a more detailed explanation.
the rear receiver prints as well as shroud dimensions are in the stickies section.
"good , bad, .....I'm the man with the gun."
Its amazing anything works right around here with a bunch of
over-age juvenile delinquents running the place.
As much as I've spent on this kit and supplies,.. I'm not spending another dime!
Just kidding, thanks for the pointer.
I have found some measurements from posts, the sticky section and the net. I don't see how anyone could repair the shroud's aft end depicted in the photos in the original post with just what I've found.
The good news is I pulled mine out of the box again after staring at the various photos around the web and found mine actually extends further than depicted in the photos above and based on receiver/shroud closeups, appears it will need to be cut down to mate the receiver.
I can get you the original sizes taken from Yugo M53 if needed. If you look you'll find the rear of the barrel bushing is still in that front part.Mine measured 17.750'' from the rear of the bushing to the shoulder where the barrel rests against.I marked mine with a scribe before removing the remnant ,then carfully installed the new bushing back to this measurement .
I made my bushing using the bushing blueprint here ,I believe all the camming area receiver specs are on the drawing by mgmike here.
