My confidence with the guy is about all gone. I asked of I bought the MG, would he ship everything when he received the funds, and the gun on approval. Still waiting for a reply. I don't want the gun, but I need a sled. How bad you you want the gun? Maybe I can get everything from the guy, sell you the gun and have him transfer it to you and the rest to me. BBigbore... No offensive but thats kind of ass backwards. How about I make the deal and sell you the sled. Like I told you, if I get the gun I will have a Sled to sell for sure! Why? I can't afford to keep two. So how about just let me get the gun and then we can work out a sled deal. I plan to drive down there if I get all this stuff if I get it. Either way I am already in the deal because of my MG08/15 thats already a done deal with the guy. So like I said, I am going to take a swing at this gun and see if I can get it. How serious? I have been saving since last november and I have not bought much else waiting for this! I would certainly put you at the top of the list for making a deal on the sled should you choose to back out. Plus you can count on me packing it so it will not get broken in shipping as my first sled did!

I don't see it as backwards, I see it as the only sure way for me to get a sled any time soon. I've been looking for quite a while, and I cant find one anywhere. If you hadn't mentioned you were working with the guy I would have already made a significant offer for the gun. I'm at the stage in my life where I have more money than patience, a bird in the hand thing.... Its because the guy is dicking you around that I'm shy of getting involved with him. I don't believe you are any more in the deal to getting the gun than anyone else. It was another member here who bid the gun up over 10K. Had he hit the reserve, we wouldn't be having this conversation. You would still be looking for an MG08, and I'd be at square one looking for a sled.

Unless hes reading this forum, he has no idea how interested I am. All my contact has been through GB, and if hes looking at the bidders he knows I'm not one of the bidders.

If you weren't working on this, I would have been on the plane with Cobra commander. I'm an FFL/SOT, and if Bob really thinks its worth what he says, I can buy it, rewat it, put it on my swiss mount then sell it, and keep the sled. Yes, it may or may not cost me an undetermined amount, but I'll have a sled.

I wont approach the seller right now. I'll send you an IM/emial before I contact him with an offer, and what the offer is in case he attempts to counter back to you. I can just imagine him telling you he has another offer of $X, when I only offered $Y. If I were you I'd get a hold of the guy and tell him to (Try a different word.) or get off the pot. Tell him to pull the auction or your done. The highest anyone else has offered him is dwmmg08, and you know what that was compared to what you have offered.

If your short on the $ and you have to sell a parts kit and a sled, I only want a sled but I'd buy both to get the sled and resell the parts kit. If your deal does fall through, and I'm able to pick it up I'd be happy to offer the MG to you. Or, if you have a better idea of what the guy is willing to take maybe we can work together to both get what we want. This is an interesting little drama we have here on the interweb, isn't?

I pretty much agree with all you said. The only reason I said it was kind of ass backwards is that the sled seemed to me to be the lesser item. Plus you get into the whole straw purchase problem... who is the real buyer type thing for the gun. I had no idea you were looking that hard for a sled. There have been two or three come up in the last year or so. I did not mean to offend you. I have not made the guy an offer as any offer would just make him wonder and you are right, with this guy who knows exactly how close you are to the purchase is anyones guess. I am pretty sure the reserve was $20K so I was not to worried about the auction going. A MG08 went at auction for $6.5K not long ago and it was not a dewat but needed to be refinished. So add $3K to it and you get Glens bid. Its hard to say how this whole thing is going to go and its even harder to see exactly what you are getting. I think right now we are just seeing a game... When he thinks he has a fair idea of the value, he will name a price... until then we are just feeding him more info and raising the price for one of us. Any offer made now will be turned down for a higher offer to one of us later. That is my thoughts on the issue and why I have not bid or made an offer. I have let it be known I am interested and I bought his last MG. He still has yet to tell me about the GB auction. Until he does I am pretty sure he is just trying to gain info. When he wants to sell it, I don't think he will "forget" to tell the person that bought the last GB auction about the current one. All that $9.5K bid did was to raise the min price to about $10.5K...

Oh and I would put the sled up without the parts kit as I would part out the parts kit piece by piece and keep a few.

Guten Abend, Kameraden!

Darn it, I couldn't deliver the red man fast enough, so it's back up for auction. Cobra apparently was unable to trade his fantasy football team for it either.

I think the new picture is in response to the question I sent him, asking about the topcover markings and the sled markings. You see what I got, he's not the best on the uptake... about all you can tell from that is that it's a DWM gun, and a 1917-18 one most likely!

Anyway, I bid on it, and it was fun, but I honestly didn't think I was anywhere close to his reserve, and I still don't. I think he's got it up at ridiculous levels. I did write and ask him what he'd take for it, as these were selling now for ( I used Bob's numbers for the two he said he's sold recently) and noted that this one is going to need work to restore, which costs. I did that mainly to try to indicate to him that his previous buy it now fantasy price was not likely to happen, I hope that helps Matt out!

I like this gun and the sled, I think it looks neat! I pointed out that the booster is from an 08/15 on two pictures: but on one, it looks like an 08 booster, not the 08/15 one. The pictures were obviously taken at different times, the lighting is totally different!

I would love to get in on a sled this nice, If anyone's got a sled swap going let me know!

I have a copy of the form 5 for both this MG08 and the MG08/15 I already purchased. Again they are not in this guys name. He is selling them for a old lady. After months of waiting for him to get the paperwork in order, it seems to be now... thats why he is trying to figure out a price. But yes I have a copy of the form 5 for the MG08 on GB. He sent it to me not long ago. Thats why I think I am still a little more in the game than it seems.

I've had a few guns registered in the 60s, that the NFA branch had no record of(lost in the digital conversion). Luckily the sellers had copies of the original Form 1s. Still added time to the process, but luckily My examiner is probably the best one the NFA has (Mr. Lamberger).

Funny, I've heard of several like that too. There may be more of that showing up as the WWII generation and the kids of the WWI generation are passing away.
