I got my kit this weekend. Looks good except the barrel is toast. The first inch literally looks like a coblestone road ,
then totally smooth for the remainder. I mainly wanted the receiver to use with an IO kit that had a trashed receiver.
I will use the IO receiver pieces for the .308. Now I need a .308 barrel or may reline this one. Fom the description
on Weaponeer (fair to good) I was expecting a better barrel. There were some other things off in the description as well.
I don't blame Dan, he explained to me that the barrel was the worst part of these kits. He was selling them for $25.
As it is, I ended up with some WW2 dated parts that were described on Weaponeer as being post war - like the bolt
and grip assm.

BigGun,
Numrich still has 308 barrels for under $100...

I just put an order in for one and total was $79. Looks like that's the best price on the internet right now....

BIGUNDOCTOR,
OK, this will cost you a few dollars, but it is money WELL SPENT! Go to this link on the Reviews section of the Forum: http://salt6.com/MG42Board/viewtopic.php?t=499 See John Baums response and click on his website for a listing of the English Translations he has available.
This review of John Baum's EXCELLENT translations of original German manuls for the MG42, MG1, & MG2 should provide the information you need. John has translated a number of the original manuals and more to come. The information contained in them is worth every penney you will pay.
I would recommend that you write John an e-mail and ask him which translations you need to answer your questions. He will advise which manuals you need.

Will do Bill. The order shipped today so should be here next week.
And I just realized I forgot to post the pics of my kit from Dan... Here they are:
I'm extremely happy with it. I'll keep the barrel just for taking to any gathering or shoot I go to. But I think I'm going to try to convert to 8mm anyway... But when that dries up I'll then have the 308 barrel from Numrich. So it's all good.

I got my kit in last week, Monday or Tuesday I think. It was so darn busy in the shop last week I did not get to check it out until this morning, Saturday. I have to say everything looks good, the receiver on mine appears to be in the white? Anybody else run across this? I had the good fortune of paying attention to the advise on the forum here and snatched up some accesories before the prices started to climb. I got two of those .308 barrels from Numrich when they were $29.00, guess I should've bought ten of the them huh? To answer the condition question, they were advertised as new Steyr barrels and I see nothing about them that would counterdict that, mine are new.
