Barrel bushing ?
Wiselite:
Thanks, I just bandsaw-cut the shroud behind the torch cut, punched out the remaining piece of old bearing, and cleaned up the remainder of the crimp. Then your bearing pushed right in. That's a lot easier than trying to line up torch-cut, curved parts of the other demils
BTW...the Yugo's fixed a problem that the Germans had that must have been pretty common. There is a "fix" in jbaum's latest manual for "spun" bearings. Apparently, if you jam the booster on tight, or fast, enough, you could cause the bearing to rotate inside the crimp and lock the barrel in The waffenmeister's fix was to weld the bearing in place. The Yugo's solved that by straight knurling (for want of a better term) on the OD of the bearing so it couldn't turn in the shroud.
I looked at my boosters, two of them are definately Yugo...they have the long part number on the cone of the flashider. The one that was tight has no part number, nor visible German markings, except for an "8" and some partial-hit stamps, mostly letters in squares, on the front curved surface (behind the cone) of the part. Also, that booster looks kind of dinged up, and has obviously been installed and/or removed with the spanner wrench. Maybe the threads were also bunged up?

Dinged Up?
MGMike Ive seen this Flash hider Little Rhody's and can tell you first hand Its not dinged up @ all in any way as a matter of fact it looks brand new and has never had a wrench taken to it there are no markings on it at all what picture are you looking @ ? you said that booster looks dinged up
Hi Rocco:
One of MY 3 boosters is bunged up a little, I wasn't talking about anybody else's. Sorry if it was confusing
In any event, all it took to make it work OK was a few minutes turning it until it got tight, then back out and repeat, with a touch of valve grinding cmpound, until it went all the way on.
Fitting this one booster didn't seem to make the other two boosters any looser on the bearing, so it is fine with me.

Oh O.K. My bad I'll tell him to try his diamond Goop or lapping compound He gets a little testy when things he pays $ for dont work but with all the different tolerences and there being some hand fitting involved with all gunsmithing this I have learned a long time ago no such thing as a drop in part with this here gun.
got 5 kits out that I have rewwrapped after initially testing these a while back. After trying to force one of the boosters it has shown some impovement. The flash hider still will not turn all the way on but I'm going to try the lapping compound tomorrow. It seems that the yugo ones due turn further onto the bearing than the Germans. This isn't going to be that big of a deal to work out. I think it was easier to weld these on than the random jagged cuts of the earlier demils. Too darn bad the rear sections weren't brought in. Does anyone know why the rear sections didn't come in? Also, if there aren't going to be any more barrels imported why are the M53s so cheap right now?? Thanks.
Because there are no receiver pieces & no company right now that supply's them newly made this equals an un buildable gun unless you fabricate your own or buy a toarch cut one and there aint that many left. I would think that the next batch that gets imported will be minus the barrels I'm Sure the russians Have thousands of them in storage from WWII just like all those K98's and nagants that we recently saw imported. Just hope they minus the barrel but include the cut receiver pieces instead that should even things out a little

Hey Rocco. I'll bet you are right about the Ruskies having a bunch of nice 42s. I"ll bet some even have the early cocking handle and have that nice black oxide Russki refiinish like the 98s have. I sure hope we can ge another import of receivers in. I have these darned M53 kits with nothing but the rears that IMA had a while back for 100.00 and about an inch gap that makes them unbuildable. bummer. Good luck with your build. I have started my second S/A gun and will send my bolt to PBB and buy another one of his trigger groups. I have one of his earlier trigger goups and can say it isi really nice. I look foward to one with a Fal trigger group.

WLA has taken a look at the "Barrel Bushing" ...
Once again I want to thank the folks who took the time to bring this question to the attention of Wise Lite Arms. I also want to apoligize to anyone who had a diffucult time fitting the "Barrel Bushing" to their "Recoil Booster".
Find attached the document we composed to provide a positive course of action for anyone that experiences this diffuculty with fitment.
For some reason no matter the format, I can't get my file posted in a manner that it can be downloaded. I have copied the text of the file and pasted it below.

Ref: MG43/M53 Repair Barrel Bushing:
We took an average of 20 Yugo M53 “Recoil Boosters†and came up with an in between thread that would fit all. 200 were produced, and all fit the Yugo M53 sample parts here.
We do not have any MG42s to compare threads to. There may be some differences we are unaware of.
Things we have seen on the Yugo here are: out of the round conditions, corosion, and damaged threads. Any one of these conditions will cause problems in fitting. If none of these three conditions exist, and all efforts fail, we will exchange the bushing purchased from us for a new one. If you provide the “Recoil Booster†when returning, then we can guarantee a good fit.
Sincerely,
Tony Wendling

Thanks for the offer of a loan of your parts. For now we are confident with the info we have in hand and our solution. If more research is needed then I'll know who to ask.
